If you see your Hamburg Township Firefighters in the area of Appleton Lake or Bishop Lake over the next few days, there’s no cause for alarm!

Our crews are conducting our annual boat training while also getting hands-on experience with a new piece of equipment designed to assist with water rescues involving individuals in the water.

And what better time to train than during these perfect August temperatures… while somehow still being in September? Mother Nature is confused, and we’re not asking questions.

Check out Lt. Stewart soaking up the rays in the Mustang suit. Somebody’s gotta do the hard work!

Your Hamburg Township Fire Department had a busy afternoon following yesterday’s severe storms, responding to more than 40 calls for service within a 24-hour period.

Due to the significant increase in call volume, an all-call was issued requesting additional HTFD personnel report to their respective stations to assist the two on-duty crews with outstanding incidents throughout the township.

Thanks to the hard work of our responding personnel, we are pleased to report that no injuries occurred as a result of these incidents.

We understand that many residents throughout the township remain without power. If you are using a portable generator, please operate it outdoors and ensure the exhaust is directed away from all doors, windows and other openings.

If a carbon monoxide alarm activates, exit the residence immediately, move to a safe location outside and call 911.

The Hamburg Township Fire Department remains staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and is always ready to assist our community during emergencies like these.

This September, your Hamburg Township Firefighters may look a little different.

As you see our crews responding to calls, picking up dinner, or simply out interacting with the community, you may notice some members aren't wearing their usual duty attire. Instead, throughout the month of September, our members will have the opportunity to wear Yellow Rose Campaign T-shirts while on duty.

The Yellow Rose Campaign was first introduced in July 2018 during the Michigan Association of Fire Chiefs Conference following the tragic loss of Lieutenant Jeff Hiltner of the West Bloomfield Fire Department.

The campaign was created to help break the stigma surrounding mental health in public service, encourage open conversations about job-related stress, and connect firefighters and other public safety personnel who may be struggling with the appropriate resources and support.

The symbolism of the Yellow Rose carries an important message. The rose represents confidentiality and trust, while the thorns represent life's trials and challenges. You may also see firefighters wearing Yellow Rose pins, signaling to their peers that they are someone who is willing to listen without judgment.

Throughout September, our crews are encouraged to proudly represent the Yellow Rose Campaign during each of their scheduled shifts.

Our shirts may look a little different this month, but our commitment won't. Same crews. Same service. Same dedication to our community.

And perhaps most importantly, a reminder to our brothers and sisters in public safety:

It's okay to not be okay. You don't have to carry it alone.

Structure Fire

At approximately 7:00 a.m. this morning, the Hamburg Township Public Safety Department, Hamburg, Michigan USA was dispatched with mutual aid from the Dexter Area Fire Department to the 11000 block of Dunlavy Lane for a reported structure fire.

Chief 102 arrived on scene and found smoke coming from the attached garage of a two-story, single-family residence. Green Oak Charter Township Fire Department Engine 83 was requested to assist at the scene, while Dexter Area Fire Department as well as Putnam Township Fire Department provided coverage for Hamburg Township.

Engine 12 arrived with a crew of two firefighters and one probationary firefighter. The crew entered the garage, located the source of the fire, and extinguished it. Tanker 11 supplied Engine 12 with water.

The fire was brought under control at approximately 7:25 a.m. Crews then conducted overhaul, ventilated the structure, and confirmed that the fire had not extended into the residence. Once the structure was determined to be safe, it was returned to the homeowner.

All crews cleared the scene and returned to service at approximately 8:20 a.m.

HTFD thanks DAFA as well as PTFD for providing coverage to Hamburg Township as well as Green Oak Township Fire Department for supplying Engine 83 and additional personnel at the scene.

I tell every group of kids that if they are still as excited about police cars and fire trucks at 15 as they were at 5, to come fill out an app. Some of us just never grow out of it 🤷🏻‍♂️
