For those in the Frontier School district, today’s the day to vote for the school board and 4 propositions covering the budget, capital improvements, and the size of the board.
Off-year school elections don’t get much attention, but they shape what happens inside every classroom and every building in the district.
Here’s what’s on the ballot today:
Prop 1: The 2026-27 school budget: $116.3 million. A yes vote approves it; a no vote sends the board back to revise.
Prop 2: A cost adjustment for the 2021 capital improvements project. Construction bids came in higher than expected (as they have everywhere), and the district is asking to use existing reserve funds to cover the gap — no new tax increase required.
Prop 3: Authorization to purchase school buses at a cost of ~$977,000, offset substantially by state transportation aid.
Prop 4: A reduction in board size from 7 members to 5. Worth reading before you vote — this one changes how the district is governed going forward.
Board seats: Three candidates are on the ballot: Chelsie Bertrand, Robert Sank, and Mary Ann Costello. Note: if Prop 4 passes, only one four-year seat will be filled today instead of three.
Polls are open until 9 PM at the CJS Falcon Center at 4540 Southwestern Blvd, Hamburg, NY. 14075. Ten minutes of your time today has a real impact on the children in your neighborhood and your broader community.
