Our future depends on our commitment to our children, and there's no better investment we can make than teaching them to read.

That's why I led the charge on a countywide resolution making grade-level reading a top priority in Tarrant County, and brought our judge, our DA, our police chief, and superintendents together to answer the call.

Right now, about half of our kids can't read on grade level. As a former police officer, I've seen where that road leads: kids who can't read proficiently are far more likely to face poverty, and even jail. Educating our children is an investment in opportunity, and opportunity is one of the best investments we can make in public safety.

When a child can read on grade level, doors open: in school, at work, and in life. Every child in Tarrant County deserves that chance.

Yesterday we had the privilege of welcoming more than 30 first responders to court to accept a proclamation honoring the victims and heroes who gave everything on September 11, 2001, and those who still serve our communities every day.

Everyone remembers where they were that day 25 years ago. And everyone's lives were forever changed. That memory is not just personal. It is shared. 9/11 woke us up and reminded us that we are one country.

We pray America finds that spirit again: no politics, no agendas, just Americans helping Americans.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​ We will never forget. 🇺🇸

Most of us know JPS Health Network as the hospital that's cared for Tarrant County families for more than a century, our public safety-net hospital, and the front door to health care for so many of our neighbors. What fewer people realize is that JPS, the Tarrant County Hospital District, answers to the Commissioners Court.

That's a serious responsibility, and one I don't take lightly. The hospital district is a large, complex, tax-supported system, and governing it well takes real business acumen and strategic vision, not just good intentions. Every decision has to serve two duties at once: caring for the patients who depend on JPS, and honoring our obligation to the taxpayers who help fund it.

That's the balance I'm committed to getting right. I'll keep working alongside our healthcare experts to increase transparency and drive operational efficiency across the system, so it runs as effectively as the families who rely on it deserve. And through it all, my top priority stays the same: the most responsible possible use of your tax dollars.

I was born at JPS Hospital, for me it’s personal. Strong, accountable stewardship of the system that keeps Tarrant County healthy, that’s what I will continue to provide for our community.
