Just a reminder this does not pertain to backyard burning. Backyard burning is still prohibited till September 30th per DEQ. Small recreational fires are allowed. If you have questions please contact the fire station.

Effective immediately, the Linn County Fire Defense Board is lifting the County wide burn ban in regard to recreation and agricultural burning.

If you reside within Oregon Department of Forestry Fire Protection, please contact ODF South Cascade District Sweet Home Unit for updated fire restrictions or follow ODF South Cascade District page for updated fire information. Debris burning "including burn barrels and debris piles”, is still prohibited throughout Linn County.

Well… we got a little ahead of ourselves. 😅

We lifted the burn ban in Linn County yesterday—and, turns out, we got that one wrong.

So, yep… the burn ban is back in place. 🔥🚫

Owning it is the easy part. Keeping everyone safe is the important part. Thanks for your patience and understanding while we correct course.

Please hold off on all burning until the ban is lifted again.

Please be aware that we are still in high fire danger. Many of our local resources including our own Brownsville firefighters are working on local fires as well as deploying to fires around the state as we are called upon. We are asking that we all use caution and make smart decisions about what projects we work on around our properties that might spark a fire. Thank you neighbors for helping us get through this challenging fire season. 👍🚒🇺🇸

LINN COUNTY BURN BAN

Starting Immediately on August 3, 2026, the Linn County Fire Defense Board is taking proactive measures to address the heightened risk of fire by implementing a series of fire restrictions.

In alignment with ODF's assessment, the Linn County Fire Defense Board has announced restrictions on all open fires, including the prohibition of recreational and cooking fires originating from open fire pits that utilize wood or charcoal. This includes agricultural burning, but does not include the use of gas-fired barbeques or pellet barbeques.

The decision to enact these restrictions is in direct response to the increased fire risk and Red Flag Warnings expected this week. The Linn County Fire Defense Board will adhere to ODF's lead and uphold these limitations as long as the extreme fire danger persists. Restricting open fires is a critical component in managing local resources effectively.

Given the heightened fire risk, it is imperative that all individuals exercise extreme caution when dealing with fire-related activities, towing (chains), and recreational pursuits. Pacific Power has also cautioned about potential selective grid shutdowns to preempt transmission line issues, particularly in high-temperature and windy conditions.

Let’s be careful out there folks.

The National Weather Service has Red Flag Warnings in place today for the southern Willamette Valley and Southern Oregon. A Fire Weather Watch is in place for the Lower Columbia Basin for Tuesday.

The forecast is calling for temps in the mid to upper 90s over the next few days. Please be , know the evacuation levels, sign up for emergency alerts, and have a plan in the event you need to evacuate because of wildfire.

As you are celebrating our great country’s freedom and independence we would like for it to be safe as well. Please keep a bucket of water close by and don’t put hot fireworks into your garbage cans. Let them soak in a bucket for a day or two before discarding. Happy Birthday America!!

Harvest season is in full swing here in Linn County!

With more farm equipment sharing our roads through the end of September, we’re reminding everyone to drive with extra care and patience. Farming is the backbone of our community, and keeping our farmers and fellow drivers safe is a team effort.

A few important reminders this time of year:

• Farm equipment should be highly visible, look for the bright lights on all sides and the large orange slow-moving vehicle triangle.
• When approaching from behind: Farm equipment moves slowly, and it’s tempting to pass. Always assume the driver cannot see you. Only pass in a legal, safe passing zone. Give yourself extra distance to see far ahead, and don’t pull back into the lane until you have plenty of room.
• When meeting equipment head-on: Slow down early. Watch for vehicles that may be passing the farm equipment coming toward you. Stay alert! That oncoming driver might not see you right away. Proceed slowly and carefully.
• A little patience goes a long way. We know it can be frustrating to get behind slow-moving equipment, but these farmers are out there working hard to feed our families and support our local economy. Let’s show them the respect they deserve.

Please build in a little extra travel time this harvest season and help us keep our roads safe for everyone.

Having our annual end of the year safety fun day at the CLES. Such a great time coming out and teaching the kids about fire safety, heavy equipment safety, traffic safety, emergency preparedness, and water safety. Thank you to Brownsville Fire District, Linn County Sheriff’s Department, Boshart Trucking, City of Halsey, Linn County Road Department, Rays Towing, Central Linn Emergency Preparedness and Central Linn School District for making all this possible.
