Thinking about landscaping? Doing some construction? Upgrading your property? We know warmer weather means more outdoor projects. Remember to call 811 three days before you dig, so they can come and mark where digging could impact utilities. If you don’t call, you could get fined.

This April, our featured events are all “Technical Conferences.” That’s a term for an informal meeting where PUC staff, the Office of Public Advocate (OPA), utility representatives, and other active parties discuss complex case details, ask questions, and explore issues. We also have three deliberative sessions this month. Those are where final decisions on cases are made. You can tune into or attend any of these to see what it means when the PUC deliberates and reviews cases. We add new sessions throughout the month, so check maine.gov/mpuc for the latest schedule and details.
Most events offer both in-person and virtual ways to participate, like submitting written comments!

If you’re a Versant customer and you use a lot of electricity, you may want to consider enrolling in one of their Eco Rates. These rates could help you save, especially if your home or business has heat pumps or EV chargers. Contact Versant to find out if an Eco Rate is right for you.

If you’re a Mainer, then your voice matters in Maine utility decisions. The Maine PUC offers several ways to get involved, depending on how much you’d like to participate.

You can submit a public comment to a case or attend a public witness hearing to share your thoughts. You can even take a more active role and apply to participate as an intervenor. That’s someone who can submit evidence, cross-examine witnesses, and even file briefs.

If your home uses a lot of electricity, CMP’s new Electric Technology Rate could lower your delivery costs. Homes using more than 577 kWh per month will see savings, especially those with heat pumps or EV chargers. Check your electric usage and see if the new rate is a good fit for you.
