☔️STAY FLOOD AWARE☔️...

All will need to remain weather alert across the South Central Texas and the Coastal Plains beginning overnight tonight, through the middle of the week(Wednesday). While not everyone will see flooding rainfall, the potential is there for rainfall to become heavy enough for flash flooding the next two or three days across all areas of South Central Texas. Most areas will see 2-4 inch totals, but isolated areas could receive 4+ inches with slow moving showers/storms...

Worried about a quarantine? New World screwworm movement restriction zones work much different than other infectious disease quarantines.

✅Animals can still move! Animals are able to move into and out of the zone as soon as they meet TAHC requirements.

✅Checkpoints are quick and simple! Trailers moving through an infested zone must stop at TAHC checkpoints. If animals are coming from outside of an infested zone and intend to keep moving through the zone to an address outside of the zone, they will receive educational outreach and be allowed to keep moving.

✅TAHC will work with you to avoid interrupting continuity of business! Call the TAHC as soon as you know you want to move animals out of an infested zone. We will schedule an inspection and advise you on how to meet requirements to keep your animals moving safely.

It's possible to encounter a blow fly that looks strikingly similar to the NWS fly. The TAHC encourages animal owners to be on the lookout for larvae in wounds first, be aware of potentially suspicious flies around living flesh second, and report suspicions to the TAHC immediately. Official identification of a fly or maggot requires confirmation by a diagnostic lab in coordination with animal health professionals, so it is important to contact the relevant authorities to confirm species identification.

On June 13, an infested zone was established in Sutton County, Texas in association with a NWS detection in a sheep. The infested zone expands into portions of Sutton, Kimble, and Schleicher Counties.

The TAHC encourages you to visit screwworm.gov for individual animal cases and information. We will continue to report the establishment of new zones, but will transition to a bi-weekly situation report to share operational updates.
