The Lavaca County Republican Party announced that a selection has been made to fill the JP2 vacancy on the upcoming November 2026 ballot. The Lavaca County Commissioners Court will take up this matter in open court on August 24, 2026. The agenda can be found here:

🔥BURN BAN IS NOW IN EFFECT FOR LAVACA COUNTY🔥...During the August 10th Commisioner's Court Meeting at 9:00am, the court received a recommendation from the Lavaca County Fire Chief's Association to reinstate the burn ban for all of Lavaca County due to extremely hot and dry conditions across the county. The Lavaca County Commissioners Court will discuss and / or approve the process for appointing a successor to the vacant Justice of the Peace Precinct 2 position on July 27, 2026, at 9:00AM. This court session will be live streamed. Please see actual court agenda for livestream address.

The Lavaca County Republican Party (independent and separate from our elected county officials and the court) has their own state deadline to meet in order to replace a candidate on the November 2026 ballot. Please see the attached notice and deadline to submit an application for consideration. The attached notice was provided to me by our local Republican Party Chair, Lorena Kanak.

If you have any questions about the selection and appointment process, we will address this process in open court on July 27, 2026 at 9:00AM.
