The Mark Forester Foundation

The Mark Forester Foundation In addition to preserving Mark's legacy, our priority is to provide college scholarships to deserving Haleyville High School Students each year.

The Mark Forester Foundation has been established to honor an American hero, SrA Mark Andrew Forester. Our priority is to provide scholarships to Haleyville High School students who exemplify patriotism, selflessness, commitment, faith, and determination, which were the basis of Mark’s life. They were also traits that he carried forth until his final breath on the battlefield. We are a non-profit, 501 (c)(3) organization.

Long lost video of Mark, thanks to Colleen McGinnis Bradberry-Innes and Tara Beth Knight. He was training even back then; I'd guess this was about 1985-ish.

A Daughter's Unwavering Search for Truth:

In the latest episode of Patriot to the Core Podcast, Colleen Shine shares a powerful story of loss, determination, and the decades-long quest for answers about her missing father.

When Colleen was just a young girl, her dad disappeared in Vietnam—leaving behind questions that would shape the rest of her life. Rather than accepting the uncertainty, she dedicated her adult years to uncovering the truth, piecing together fragments of information, and never giving up hope.

Her journey reminds us that the families of the missing carry an immeasurable burden, one that doesn't fade with time. Their strength, resilience, and commitment to finding answers deserve our recognition and support.

Listen to Colleen's full story on Patriot to the Core Podcast and discover how one person's determination can inspire us all to never stop fighting for those we love.

Colleen shares her decades-long search for answers about her father's fate after he was shot down and went missing in Vietnam in 1972.

These piles held pieces of Mark—his clothes, his gear, the personal items that filled his home in North Carolina and his cage at the 21st STS. In the month after he was killed, his teammates and friends carefully gathered everything and brought it home. It took multiple trips to collect it all.

Then we faced the question: what to do with it?

For anyone who has walked this path—sorting through what remains of someone you love—you know the weight of it; the quiet strangeness. I found myself thinking: one day, someone will do this with my things. Because we don't take any of it with us when we go.

That's been 15 years ago, but these pictures popped up as a memory and I vividly remember dad saying "What are we gonna do with all this stuff?"

Shared post from Thad: and I attended a Gold Star Family Reception at The White House on Sept 29.

It was a great experience and we appreciate that Pres Trump , VP Vance , and their staff remember and honor our military and their families, even after he spent the day working a mid-east peace deal.

A friend shared these pictures with us from her trip to NYC this week. We hate we couldn't attend the ceremony last month, but are grateful they are recognizing so many from the Air Force who gave their lives in the GWOT. Here are more details:

AFSOC (Air Force Special Operations Command) was granted the distinct honor of partnering with the 9/11 Memorial & Museum in New York City for a new exhibit dedicated to honoring the fallen heroes of the Global War on Terror. As part of this exhibit, the memorial that bears the names of our loved ones, previously housed in the lobby of AFSOC Headquarters, was loaned and recently installed at the museum.

A ceremony was held at the 9/11 Memorial & Museum in New York on September 18, 2025, coinciding with the Air Force's 78th birthday, to formally dedicate the memorial.

Mark's picture, along with 12 other fallen warriors, is on the wall at the Pentagon.

Here is the back story:

On Monday, 9/29/25, Mark's brother Thad was sworn in by Secretary of War Pete Hegseth as a member of the newly established Gold Star Advisory Council.

At the end of the day, they surprised us with this display that will be on the walls of the Pentagon indefinitely.

There is important work ahead, and Thad is encouraged by the caliber of people on the council and those leading the effort. He appreciates the urgency and support shown by Secretary Hegseth and his department.
