I want to take a moment to address something that many of us see every day — the negativity, the criticism, and sometimes the outright hate that circulates on social media.
In today’s world, it’s easy to sit behind a screen and cast judgment. It’s easy to criticize decisions without knowing the full story. And it’s easy to forget that the people wearing this badge are human beings — fathers, mothers, sons, daughters — who care deeply about this community.
Constructive criticism is welcome. Accountability is necessary. We serve the public, and we answer to the public. But there is a difference between accountability and hostility. There is a difference between dialogue and division.
Our officers come to work each day committed to protecting and serving — even those who may not always agree with us. We make decisions based on training, law, and what we believe is best for the safety of everyone involved. Not every decision will please everyone, and that’s reality. But every decision is made with integrity and with the community’s well-being in mind.
Social media can be a powerful tool for connection, but it can also amplify anger and misinformation. I encourage everyone: before sharing, before posting, before criticizing — seek facts. Ask questions. Reach out. We are here. We are accessible. We believe in transparency.
Hate does not build stronger communities. Respect does. Conversations do. Partnership does.
We will not be distracted by negativity. We will not be discouraged by criticism. And we will not stop serving with professionalism and respect.
My commitment, and the commitment of this department, is simple: We will continue to show up. We will continue to serve. And we will continue to do what is right — even when it’s difficult.
Thank you.
