Lāʻau lapaʻau, the traditional Hawaiian practice of using plants for healing, is rooted in this relationship and the knowledge passed down through generations.

Spend an evening beneath the moonlight at Waimea Valley, a sacred, living place where culture, ʻāina, and ʻike (knowledge) continue to be shared and cared for.

On August 23, join us for Moon Walk and experience the Valley after dark through ʻike sharing, a cultural tour of Kauhale, and a guided walk to the waterfall. It’s an opportunity to slow down, listen, and experience Waimea in a different light.

Before the walk, make an evening of it with Ke Nui Kitchen’s special dinner at the Proud Peacock, featuring chef-crafted, locally sourced dishes, house-smoked meats, fresh produce, and Southern-inspired flavors.

Rooted in Hilo, Hawaiʻi, Mark's music reflects a deep love for his home, his ʻohana, and the stories that shape his songwriting. His unmistakable falsetto has become one of Hawaiʻi's most cherished voices.

New endangered ʻalae ʻula chicks have hatched at Waimea Valley—an encouraging reflection of the conservation work taking place across our wetlands.

Through habitat restoration, wetland stewardship, and ongoing monitoring, our conservation team works every day to mālama this living landscape and protect the native species that call it home.

On Lā Hoʻihoʻi Ea, we remember July 31, 1843, and the restoration of Hawaiian Kingdom sovereignty through the words of King Kamehameha III:

Ua Mau ke Ea o ka ʻĀina i ka Pono.

At Waimea Valley, the meaning of ea continues through the care of this living wahi pana—where ʻāina, culture, and generations of knowledge remain deeply connected.

Today, we honor Lā Hoʻihoʻi Ea by reflecting on the responsibility to mālama what has been entrusted to us.
