We are very excited to share that we have been working on a New City Website that Mayor and Council commissioned. The transition to the new look and format will take place this Monday, the afternoon of Sept 14th. The site address will be the same.

GMA was in the City of Hahira with our 2026 District 11 Officers for a day focused on connection, collaboration and the year ahead! 👏

GMA Member Services Consultant Emily Davenport joined the district officers for a conversation about ways to better serve and connect with members across the district, upcoming events and regional training opportunities, GMA's Mentor & Mentee Program, and topics impacting communities throughout the district.

We're excited for a great year ahead in District 11 and look forward to working alongside these leaders to strengthen connections and support !

The National Weather Service has upgraded the system in the Gulf to Tropical Depression Two. At this time, there is no threat of tropical weather impacts for Lowndes County, Georgia, and current forecasts do not indicate any impacts to our area.

However, this serves as an important reminder that hurricane season is underway, and now is the time to make sure you and your family are prepared before a storm threatens.

Here are a few simple preparedness steps:
✅ Review your emergency plan.
✅ Check your emergency kit and restock supplies.
✅ Have multiple ways to receive weather alerts.
✅ Stay informed by following trusted sources, including our friends at the US National Weather Service Tallahassee Florida and Lowndes County Emergency Management.

Preparedness is one of the best ways to protect your family and reduce stress when severe weather develops.

Lowndes County Emergency Management will continue to monitor tropical activity and provide updates if conditions change.

Councilwoman Louise White, City of Hahira, was recently recognized at the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA) Annual Convention for achieving her Certificate of Excellence from the Harold F. Holtz Municipal Training Institute. The Harold F. Holtz Municipal Training Institute was created through an Act of the Georgia General Assembly. This state law required the University of Georgia, Carl Vinson Institute of Government, to establish in conjunction with GMA a committee of municipal officials to design, implement, and administer the course of training and education required by this Act. The committee is now known as the Municipal Training Board. Under the Board’s guidance, numerous classes are offered to municipal officials at many different training events throughout the year.

To receive a Certificate of Excellence, a city official must complete a minimum of 120 units of credit, including at least 54 hours from a list of required courses and the Robert E. Knox, Jr. Municipal Leadership Institute, for which Councilmember White was also recognized for attending. “This is an outstanding achievement,” said GMA Executive Director Larry Hanson. “We commend Councilmember White for this accomplishment and for the dedication she’s shown in using this valuable resource to become a more effective city official.” Based in Atlanta, GMA is a voluntary, non-profit organization that provides legislative advocacy, research, training, employee benefit and technical consulting services to its 500+ member cities.
