The Hahira Fire Department (HFD) has recently been awarded an EMS Agency License from the Georgia Department of Public Health, Office of EMS and Trauma, recognizing the department as a Licensed Medical First Responder Agency. The designation reinforces HFD's role in delivering timely, effective medical response and enhances its ability to work alongside SGMC Health EMS to improve patient outcomes.
Earning the Medical First Responder (MFR) agency license reflects HFD’s commitment to an integrated emergency response system. Fire personnel responding to calls are trained and licensed to deliver medical care using approved protocols under the guidance of a medical director. This coordination ensures that trained fire personnel can initiate medical treatment sooner, helping bridge the gap until transport arrives and continuing care through to the emergency department.
In addition, HFD's focus on ongoing training, and education has strengthened its ability to respond to a wide range of medical emergencies, including trauma-related incidents. Regular training opportunities, supported through its partnership with SGMC Health EMS, have provided personnel with expanded knowledge and hands-on experience, further elevating the quality of care delivered in the field.
Overall, obtaining this license marks an important step forward for HFD, reinforcing its commitment to professional service and improved patient outcomes for the community it serves

Last Friday, two members of the Hahira Fire Department were recognized by SGMC Health Emergency Services with a Trauma Life Save Award. The recognition highlights the efforts of personnel whose early intervention and pre-hospital care contributed significantly to patient care outcomes. We appreciate the continued partnership with SGMC Health Emegency Services and the recognition of our personnel.

Today we recognize National EMT & Paramedic Day and take a moment to thank the men and women who answer the call when their community needs them most. We’re especially proud to stand alongside them.
At Hahira Fire, every staff member is now certified and licensed as an EMT. That means when the tones drop, our community is getting a team prepared to handle both fire and medical emergencies from the moment we arrive.
It’s a standard we’ve worked hard to reach and one we’re committed to maintaining as we continue serving the City of Hahira.

If you see our crews out working on hydrant flow operations, feel free to wave or say hello!
We appreciate everyone’s support and patience while we complete this important work around the community.

The Hahira Fire Department will begin annual fire hydrant testing this week and will continue in the area over the next few weeks. This is part of our routine area flow testing to make sure hydrants provide an adequate water supply and function properly.

You may notice water in the streets or briefly discolored water. This is normal during testing. If your water appears discolored, simply run your tap for a few minutes until it clears.

Thank you for your understanding as we work to keep Hahira safe

The Hahira Fire Department enjoyed being a part of the Spring Downtown event in Hahira this past Saturday, where we hosted a Truck Tour for the community. We were glad to see so many families come out and spend time with us. Kids had the opportunity to check out the trucks, see our equipment up close, and climb inside while firefighters answered questions and talked about what we do. We always appreciate opportunities like this to connect with the community and give people a closer look at what we do. Thank you to everyone who came out and made it a great event!

We had an absolute blast at the Hahira Middle School Career Fair this past Friday! Our team loved showing off our PPE, answering fire safety questions, and meeting so many curious and enthusiastic students.
A big thank you to the students and staff for letting us be part of such an awesome event—we can’t wait to see you again next year!

Over a week ago, our community suffered a heartbreaking loss with the passing of one of our own, First Responder and Hahira Police Officer Caleb Abney.
This past Sunday, first responders from across the region—including law enforcement, fire, and EMS—gathered together to honor Caleb’s life, service, and unwavering dedication to keeping others safe. His courage, commitment, and selflessness will never be forgotten.
We extend our deepest condolences to Caleb’s family, friends, and all who served alongside him. He will forever be remembered as a hero in the hearts of this community.
