Congratulations to Taylor and Andrew Smith on their Grand Opening as the new owners of Coles Point Marina and Shuck It Raw Bar & Grill!

As I’ve said before, small businesses are the backbone of Westmoreland County. They create jobs, support local families, attract visitors, and help keep our local economy strong. That’s why it’s always exciting to see local entrepreneurs investing in our community and taking on new opportunities.

If you’re out and about this weekend, stop by, check them out, and show your support. Wishing Taylor and Andrew the very best as they begin this new chapter in Coles Point.

*** Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission Reaccredits the Sheriff's Office ***

On Thursday, May 28, 2026 at their quarterly meeting, the Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission (VLEPSC) reaccredited the Westmoreland County Sheriff's Office with their sixth award. To achieve accreditation, an agency must be in compliance with applicable program standards that concentrate on administration, operations, personnel and training. During their extensive on-site assessment held in late April, the sheriff's office achieved 100% compliance with zero returns.

To obtain and remain accredited is not an easy task. However, accreditation enhances an agencies ability to provide the highest quality of professional law enforcement services by instituting and utilizing best practices. I am extremely proud of each member of the sheriff's office for their commitment and dedication to the accreditation process. Congratulations and job well done!!

A formal presentation of the Certificate of Accreditation from the Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) will occur at the Westmoreland County Board of Supervisors meeting on June 08, 2026.
