Good morning, WCESP! 🌸

Before we close out another week, here's a reminder:

There is no such thing as “just” an ESP.

You're not just a bus driver.

Not just a para.

Not just a secretary.

Not just a custodian.

Not just a food service employee.

Not just maintenance, transportation, operations, technology, or student support.

Every role contributes to whether our students arrive safely, eat, learn, feel supported, and attend school in buildings that function.

Different jobs. Different responsibilities. One essential team.

Be proud of the work you do.

WCESP sees you.

Good morning, WCESP!

One of the simplest ways to use your voice at work is to ask questions.

“Can you help me understand this?”

“Where can I find that in my job description?”

“Is this temporary or an ongoing change?”

“Can you put that in writing?”

“What does our negotiated agreement say?”

Asking a respectful question is not being difficult.

It is how we gather information, prevent misunderstandings, and understand what is expected of us.

And sometimes one person asking a question discovers that ten other people were wondering the same thing.

Don't be afraid to ask.

An informed membership is a stronger membership.

Good morning, WCESP! 🌻

📘 KNOW YOUR CONTRACT WEDNESDAY

Do you know what your job description says?

This is especially important when you begin hearing:

“We’ve always done it this way.”
“Everyone helps with that.”
or
“That’s part of your job.”

Your negotiated agreement now states that all job descriptions shall be available on the WCPS website.

If yours is not available online, the Board shall not unreasonably deny a request for a copy.

And if WCPS substantially changes a job description, employees in that position and WCESP must receive a copy.

Your job description is an important document.

✅ Read it.
✅ Know it.
✅ Keep a copy.
✅ Ask questions when your assigned duties don't seem to match it.

Know your contract. Know your job. Know your rights.

Questions? Reach out to WCESP.

Send a message to learn more

Good morning, WCESP!

We hope everyone had a restful Labor Day weekend!

As we head back into our schools and worksites today, remember:

You are not alone.

Across Washington County, ESPs are driving buses, preparing meals, supporting classrooms, maintaining buildings, answering phones, helping families, keeping schools safe, and doing hundreds of other things that make public education possible.

We may work in different buildings, departments, and job classifications — but we are part of one bargaining unit and one union.

There is strength in knowing that someone has your back.

That is what union means.

Have a great Tuesday, WCESP!

Good morning, WCESP! ☀️

Today we celebrate Labor Day — a day that belongs to working people.

Labor Day is more than a long weekend. It is a reminder that many of the things workers have today were won because people came together, organized, spoke up, and demanded better.

Fair wages.
Safer workplaces.
Reasonable hours.
Benefits.
Collective bargaining.
A voice on the job.

Our own negotiated agreement recognizes Labor Day as one of our holidays.

Today, we honor the generations of workers who came before us, and every Educational Support Professional who continues that legacy by standing together today.

Enjoy your Labor Day, WCESP.

✊ Union rights are worker rights.
And worker rights were won by workers.

Good morning, WCESP! 🤩
As we head into Labor Day weekend, it is worth remembering what Labor Day represents.
It is more than the unofficial end of summer.
It is a day honoring the contributions of working people and the labor movement that fought for many of the protections workers often take for granted today.
Weekends.
Reasonable work hours.
Workplace safety.
Overtime protections.
Collective bargaining.
A voice on the job.
Those protections did not simply appear.
Working people organized for them.
This Labor Day weekend, WCESP honors every Educational Support Professional whose work keeps our schools moving and our students supported.
Enjoy your weekend. Rest. Recharge.
And remember:
There is power in working people standing together.
