🇺🇸🚑 EMS WEEK 2026 🚒🇺🇸

This EMS Week, the Washington County Volunteer Fire & Rescue Association proudly honors the dedicated EMTs, Paramedics, first responders, and volunteer support personnel who answer the call day and night to protect our communities.

As our nation celebrates America’s 250th Birthday, we are reminded that the spirit of service and sacrifice has always been part of what makes this country strong. For generations, volunteers have stood ready in times of crisis — neighbors helping neighbors when it matters most.

Today, that tradition continues through our “Freedom to Volunteer” campaign.

From emergency scenes and public events to training nights and community outreach, our volunteers give their time freely so others can receive lifesaving care when seconds count. Their commitment represents the very best of Washington County and the enduring American spirit.

To every EMS provider serving across Washington County:
Thank you for your compassion, courage, and dedication.

Now more than ever, we invite others to join the tradition.

🚑 Volunteer.
🇺🇸 Serve Your Community.
🗽 Celebrate 250 Years of American Service.

Because freedom isn’t just celebrated — it’s lived through service to others.

🥶❄️ Dangerously Cold Temperatures Ahead

Washington County is expected to experience dangerously cold temperatures over the next several days. Extreme cold can be life-threatening if proper precautions aren’t taken, even with short periods of outdoor exposure.

Limit Cold Exposure
🔷 Stay indoors as much as possible
🔷 Dress in layers, including a hat, gloves, and a face covering
🔷 Limit time outside and take frequent warm-up breaks
🔷 Watch for signs of frostbite and hypothermia
🔷 Check on older adults, neighbors, and those without adequate heat
🔷 Bring pets indoors and protect livestock

Snow Shoveling Safety
🔷 Shovel only if necessary and take frequent breaks
🔷 Push snow when possible and avoid lifting heavy loads
🔷 Lift small amounts using your legs, not your back
🔷 Stay hydrated and avoid alcohol before or during shoveling
🔷 Stop immediately if you feel chest pain, dizziness, or shortness of breath

❗ Extreme cold increases the risk of injury and medical emergencies. Please take this weather seriously and put safety first.

The Washington County Office of Emergency Management urges residents to plan ahead, stay warm, and look out for one another.

🚒 Help Keep Fire Hydrants Clear 🚒

As snow accumulates, please take a moment to clear snow and ice from fire hydrants near your home or business.

Fire hydrants that are buried or blocked can delay firefighters in an emergency when every second matters. Clearing a hydrant can make a critical difference and help protect lives and property.

When clearing snow, please remove it from all sides of the hydrant and create a clear path from the street to the hydrant.

Thank you for helping keep our community safe this winter.
