Today is Washington County Gives!

Our foster families play a crucial role in saving the lives of animals here in Washington County. Whether they are bottle-feeding newborn kittens, socializing guinea pigs, providing a home environment for a cat recovering from an emergency surgery, taking dogs out for sleepovers and pup cups, or providing a comfy barn for a 200-pound pig to relax in while awaiting adoption, fosters help us care for an additional 900+ animals each year! The feedback we receive from an animal’s time spent in foster care provides valuable information that assists us in finding the best home for them when they become available for adoption. Help us continue the life-saving work of our compassionate foster caregivers with a donation of just $10 today!

URGENT foster needed!

When Janey came to us as a stray last week, she tested positive for parvovirus. Janey is now asymptomatic and is doing great. Now she must go to a foster home to minimize exposing other vulnerable animals at the shelter.

We are looking for a foster who has no dogs and (ideally) no cats in their home. This is because although Janey is well on her way to recovery, she still may be shedding the parvovirus. She will need to stay in foster care for at least 2 weeks.

We will provide a crate, food, toys, and medical guidance. (Remember, our fosters also have the first choice to adopt!)

If you think your home is the perfect soft landing spot for Janey, please email [email protected]. Include your phone number and any relevant information or experience.

If you can’t foster, please share this post!

Hello friends!
We have a dear little black lab pup named Janey who came into us on April 10th who tested positive for parvovirus. Because of our current dog population, we had place here to quarantine this little girl, so we called our friends at local vet office, who agreed to take her in to treat her (She was a stray, so we had to keep her for 5 days).

This morning, we found out that Janey is doing GREAT and is ready to be released! Due to her still shedding the parvovirus, she cannot come here as it could potentially endanger our canine population. So, here is what we are looking for: Someone who is looking to adopt a puppy to do a Foster to Adopt with this little girl. This adopter should have no cats or dogs in their home. Even if their other animals are fully vaccinated, there is still a small risk as no vaccine is 100% reliable. We can give this person things to watch for, and how to manage the virus in their home and yard.

We are very hopeful that the virus was caught early and that she can make a full recovery. Please share this with anyone you know who might be interested. You can give them my direct email at [email protected].

Thank you!
