Mediators; Amanda Starleper and Tekesha Martinez, spent the day with the HCC Police Academy Cadets on 5/3/2017 facilitating a Conflict Management Training. We begin every training and facilitation with a gathering (circle) and introduction of who we are and what we do at the Washington County Community Mediation Center. We walked into the room at 8am and started re arranging chairs and tables (remove barriers and make a circle), covering windows on doors (no peeping in please). We handed out a pre-test and then the FUN began!!
We started out with "Understanding Conflict" we brainstormed, did an exercise and explained the "Five Approaches to Conflict"
We covered what it means to "Adopt Neutrality" with a discussion and a few different exercises and games.
Then comes "De-escalating Conflict" with some "Reflective Listening" exercises and good ole fun charades, mediation style.
We finished up with a post test and how to refer case to their local Conflict Resolution Office.
If you or your business is interested in FREE conflict resolution training, mediation, meeting or staff meeting facilitation, give us a call and see how we can put together a training specifically for your business or organization. We are located downtown Hagerstown in the Professional Arts Building. 5 Public Square, suite 204 301-665-6292
***Thank you HCC Police Academy for another successful day of training and we look forward to celebrating with you guys at your graduation!
