A few weeks left to support the work of the Maryland Commission on African American History & Culture in celebrating & preserving Black culture, by donating books that highlight black voices and stories. Donate new and gently used books, across all reading levels, that reflect African American heritage, culture, and lived experience.

Donations accepted in designated boxes and at the Circulation Desks of all WCFL locations.

Bring your favorite historical doll (American Girl Doll, or otherwise!) to a tea party celebrating America's 250th birthday! We'll have stories, tea and tea party food, games, and crafts. For children ages 5-12 and their parents, and dolls of all ages. We encourage you to come dressed in fancy dress or historical costumes.

At the Sharpsburg Library on June 9th, 6-7 PM:

The Hill Top House Hotel was for generations a beloved Harpers Ferry destination, yet few guests knew that it was founded by African- Americans Tom and Lavinia Lovett. Learn about their challenges and successes as operators of a segregated whites-only resort during the early Jim Crow era. Author Lynn Pechuekonis will sign pre-purchased books.

We are so grateful to Ruth Ann Shives and family for their generous donation. Mrs. Shives was a longtime Hancock resident and a devoted supporter of libraries.

This gift will fund the installation of Pixel Pegs from Science Kinetics- a large-scale take on the classic Lite-Brite. This colorful, hands-on feature invites children and families to create illuminated designs that encouraging creativity, collaboration, and interactive play.

A version of this is already in use at our Hagerstown location and is well-loved!
