UPDATE: 4/21, 6:30AM: HLD and mutual assistance crews are continuing efforts to restore service. Please be mindful of work areas and remain clear for your safety. It is our goal to restore service to the majority of customers by late tonight. Some of the hardest hit locations and toughest rebuilds may linger into tomorrow (4/22), but we remain vigilant.
UPDATE 4/20 6:00PM: Numerous mutual assistance crews made up of Maryland Municipal Electric Dept. workers, contract line workers, and tree crews arrived on the HLD system throughout the day. Linework and tree work will continue through the night and through the day tomorrow. Service has been restored to thousands of customers, but many scattered outages remain, we will get to you as soon as we can. Image: A roof lays against a broken HLD pole.
UPDATE: 4/20, 11:24AM: All HLD electric circuits are back in service with a few sections of them still out under repair. Crews will be actively removing trees, replacing poles, crossarms, and wires. We estimate the majority of customers to be returned to service by the late evening of 4/21 as we go service call by service call. There will be a few that take longer due to the damage. We will be widespread the remainder of today and tonight working non-stop. If your power is still out, you can check up with us by calling 301-790-2600 24/7.
UPDATE: 4/20, 6:10AM: Multiple circuits have been restored to service and a few remain out pending repairs. Individual electric services are being scouted and added to the work schedule. Repairs are lengthy, with many of them requiring hours of tree removal before repairs can begin. Please report downed electric utility facilities to the HLD by calling 301-790-2600.
UPDATE: 4/20, 3:53AM: Crews continue to investigate causes of damage and make repairs. As mentioned, it is widespread. We have restored service to approximately 3360 customers, but we have a long way to go. Please exercise patience as we work tirelessly to restore service to critical facilities first, followed by the remaining areas.
UPDATE 4/20, 12:43AM: Initial damage assessment is severe. Additional assistance is being requested. Service will be restored to critical facilities first, followed by remaining areas. This WILL be an extended outage and an estimated time of restoration will be provided once damage assessment is completed. Outages and downed facilities can be reported as always to 301-790-2600.
The HLD is aware of outages throughout the City and crews have been dispatched to affected areas to perform damage assessment and determine repairs. At this time we do not have individual estimated times of restoration, but as we are able to, we will share here. Please stay away from all downed power lines.
