September 11, 2001 — Never Forget. 🇺🇸

Today, we remember the brave men and women who lost their lives on 9/11. We remember the firefighters, police officers, EMS providers, military members, and the countless innocent people who never made it home.

Most of all, we honor the 343 members of the FDNY who made the ultimate sacrifice that day. They answered the call, climbed the stairs, and ran toward unimaginable danger knowing others needed them. They left behind families, brothers and sisters in the fire service, and a legacy of courage that will never fade.

For those of us who wear the badge and answer the call, their memory carries a little extra weight.

Every time the tones drop, every time we climb into a truck, and every time we respond to someone in need, we carry their memory with us. We strive to honor the 343 by serving with the same courage, dedication, and selflessness that they showed on that terrible day.

We may never be able to repay the debt owed to those who gave everything, but we can honor them by continuing to serve, continuing to answer the call, and continuing to put others before ourselves.

343 lives. 343 heroes. 343 brothers and sisters who will never be forgotten.

Their sacrifice will never be forgotten.
Their bravery will never be forgotten.
Their legacy lives on in every one of us who answers the call.

AIR QUALITY ALERT: CODE RED IN EFFECT TOMORROW

Smoke from wildfires burning across Canada and the northern United States is being carried into Maryland by prevailing northwesterly winds, pushing air quality to Code Red (Unhealthy) levels Friday throughout most of the state and Code Purple (Very Unhealthy) in Western Maryland. Wildfire smoke can travel hundreds of miles, and current weather patterns are bringing it into our region. At this level, air pollution can affect everyone, not just sensitive groups.

Who is most at risk: People with asthma, COPD, or heart disease; older adults; pregnant women; young children; and anyone who works or exercises outdoors.

What everyone should do:

Limit time outdoors and avoid strenuous outdoor activity.

Keep windows and doors closed; run air conditioning on recirculate if you have it.

If you have a portable air purifier, use it in the room where you spend the most time.

Reschedule outdoor exercise, youth sports, and other physical activity for a cleaner-air day.

If you must be outside: Keep it brief, take it easy, and consider a well-fitting N95 or KN95 mask, which reduces smoke particle exposure (cloth and surgical masks do not).

Watch for symptoms: Coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, or unusual fatigue. If symptoms are severe or don't improve, seek medical care. Call 911 for difficulty breathing or chest pain.
