The Monument preserves the largest concentration of Hagerman Horse (Equus simplicidens) fossils in North America, 30 complete horse foss

ils and portions of 200 individual horses. Internationally significant, the Monument protects fossils from the late Pliocene epoch (4 to 3 million years ago) including over 220 species of plants and animals!

Are you curious about the dog-like bone crushing canids, mastodons, giant otters and other creatures that roamed the wetlands, forests, and grasslands of southern Idaho millions of years ago? If so, join us as we partner with the Idaho Museum of Natural History for a special fossil exploration event on June 11 from 10 am to 2 pm at the Thousand Springs Visitor Center in Hagerman!
Fossil exploration events will also be held on July 9, August 6, and September 17.

Join us, and our colleagues from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Minidoka National Wildlife Refuge, for a special “Pollinator Month” event on June 12 from 10 am to 2 pm at the Thousand Springs Visitor Center in Hagerman to find out!
