🚨 URGENT CALL TO ACTION – HAGERMAN, NM 🚨

76-YEAR-OLD WIDOW NEEDS OUR COMMUNITY'S HELP!

Today, Roswell Community Disaster Relief (RCDR) received a call from a 911 dispatcher regarding a request for emergency assistance for a woman who experienced catastrophic flooding inside her home.

The resident is a 76-year-old widow living alone in Hagerman, NM, who also faces multiple underlying health challenges.

A major water line break inside her home caused extensive flooding, resulting in damage comparable to what we might see following a severe storm.

Unfortunately, she did not initially reach out for assistance, and the water damage continued to worsen until concerned neighbors checked on her and discovered the situation.

THE DAMAGE IS EXTENSIVE!

Carpeting, sheetrock, flooring, and numerous personal belongings have been damaged. Much of the affected material will need to be removed and hauled away before the home can begin the drying and recovery process.

❤️ HERE IS HOW YOU CAN HELP!

🏨 EMERGENCY HOTEL ASSISTANCE

We are seeking financial assistance to provide this elderly resident with a hotel room for approximately 3–4 days while volunteers begin working on her home.

🛠️ VOLUNTEERS NEEDED IN HAGERMAN

We are looking for individuals, churches, organizations, or volunteer groups willing to help with:

- Removing damaged carpeting and flooring.
- Removing water-damaged sheetrock where necessary.
- Moving furniture and personal belongings.
- Removing and hauling away damaged materials.
- Helping prepare the home for proper drying and restoration.

💰 FINANCIAL DONATIONS NEEDED

Because this incident was caused by an internal water line break rather than a weather-related disaster, we are reaching out directly to our community for additional support to help cover this emergency.

Please indicate "Hagerman Flood Relief" in the payment notes so we can identify donations intended for this emergency.

🙏 HAGERMAN, DEXTER, ROSWELL, AND SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES — WE NEED YOU!

This woman is 76 years old, lives alone, and is now facing a devastating situation that no elderly resident should have to navigate without support.

Whether you can donate toward a hotel room, provide a few hours of labor, assist with hauling damaged materials, or simply share this post, your help can make a tremendous difference.

No one should have to face a disaster alone.

If you or your organization would like to volunteer, please contact Roswell Community Disaster Relief directly.

Let's come together and help this Hagerman resident begin the road to recovery!

⚠️ WEATHER & FLOODING UPDATE — SEPTEMBER 25 ⚠️

Hagerman Fire & EMS continues to monitor conditions throughout our area as another round of scattered storms remains possible this evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Albuquerque, southeastern New Mexico remains vulnerable to additional flooding due to already saturated ground from the significant rainfall we have received. Even an isolated storm producing heavy rain could cause renewed flooding in areas already impacted. The NWS advises residents to remain weather-aware, have multiple ways to receive warnings, heed local authorities, and travel only if absolutely necessary.

‼️TURN AROUND, DON’T DROWN‼️

Please continue to use extreme caution around the Rio Felix, low-water crossings, arroyos, flooded roadways, and areas where water is moving or rising.

DO NOT drive around barricades, ROAD CLOSED signs, or emergency vehicles blocking a roadway. Never assume a road is safe simply because the water appears shallow. Conditions can change quickly, and roadways may be damaged or washed out underneath the water.

🚨 Please do not put yourself in a situation that could also put our firefighters, EMS personnel, law enforcement officers, or other first responders at unnecessary risk. If a road is closed, find another route. If you encounter water across a roadway, turn around.

If you are in immediate danger or need emergency assistance, call 911.

The latest NWS outlook also indicates a quieter Saturday, but another surge of monsoon moisture is expected beginning late Sunday into Monday, with an increased flash-flooding risk continuing into the middle of next week. Additional rainfall of 1–3 inches may be possible across portions of New Mexico, with locally higher amounts, although the exact location and magnitude of the heaviest rainfall remain uncertain.

Please stay weather aware, take warnings seriously, and look out for one another.

⚠️🌧️ FLOOD SAFETY WARNING – HAGERMAN AREA 🌧️⚠️

With the continued heavy rainfall and flooding throughout our area, Hagerman Fire & EMS is asking everyone to use EXTREME CAUTION and take ALL road closures seriously.

🌊 The Rio Felix is already running, and with additional rainfall and runoff, water levels in rivers, arroyos, low-water crossings, and other flood-prone areas may continue to rise. Roadways and crossings are already being impacted and closed.

🚧 DO NOT DRIVE AROUND ROAD CLOSED SIGNS, BARRICADES, OR EMERGENCY VEHICLES BLOCKING A ROADWAY. They are there for a reason. A roadway that looks passable may be washed out underneath, or the water may be much deeper and moving faster than it appears.

🚫🌊 TURN AROUND, DON’T DROWN. 🌊🚫

Never attempt to drive through a flooded roadway or low-water crossing. Conditions can change very quickly.

⚠️ PLEASE REMEMBER:
• Never drive around barricades or ROAD CLOSED signs.
• Do not attempt to cross running water.
• Avoid low-water crossings, arroyos, and areas near the Rio Felix.
• Do not allow children to play near floodwater, drainage areas, or fast-moving water.
• If you encounter a flooded roadway, TURN AROUND and find another route.
• Give emergency responders and road crews plenty of room to work.
• If you see a dangerous situation or someone is in immediate danger, CALL 911.

Please take these warnings seriously. Your life is not worth the risk — and neither are the lives of the first responders who may have to come rescue you.

Stay alert. Stay safe.
TURN AROUND, DON’T DROWN.

Last nights meeting was about family. 💚

Last night, we had the pleasure of sharing a delicious meal with our members and their significant others. We also took some time to celebrate the birthdays from the last few months, making the evening even more special.

We wanted to recognize not only the commitment of our firefighters and EMS personnel, but also the incredible support they receive from their families.

Being a volunteer means answering late-night calls, leaving family dinners, missing special moments, and dropping everything when our community needs us. Those sacrifices aren’t made by our members alone—they’re made by the spouses, children, and loved ones who stand behind them every step of the way. We are truly grateful for each and every one of you. Your support is a huge part of what keeps Hagerman Fire & EMS strong.

A huge thank you to La Botana for providing an absolutely amazing dinner of red enchiladas, beans, and rice! It was so delicious that we almost forgot to take a picture before everyone started eating… so you’ll have to forgive our “already-served” photo! 😄

We’d also like to extend a special thank you to Isabel Garcia for the incredible homemade salsa. It was the perfect finishing touch to an already wonderful meal!

The evening ended with full stomachs, birthday celebrations, plenty of laughter, and a reminder of just how fortunate we are to have such an amazing department and support system.

To every member and every family behind the scenes—thank you. We appreciate your dedication, your sacrifices, and everything you do to help keep Hagerman Fire & EMS serving our community. We truly couldn’t do it without you. 💚🚒🚑

🚨 Vehicle Fire Response – Highway 249 🚨

On Friday, July 17, at approximately 9:20 a.m., Hagerman Fire & EMS responded to a reported semi-truck cab fire on Highway 249 after dispatch received reports of a truck on fire with flames coming from under the dashboard.

Upon arrival, crews found the semi tractor (not connected to a trailer) involved in the fire. Firefighters quickly went to work to contain and extinguish the blaze. We appreciate the assistance from Dexter Fire for their mutual aid and teamwork on scene.

Hagerman Police Department and the Chaves County Sheriff’s Office also responded and assisted with traffic control, helping keep the area safe while firefighters worked to extinguish the fire.

The driver was able to safely exit the vehicle before crews arrived and was not injured.

We are thankful this incident ended without injuries and appreciate the patience and cooperation of everyone traveling through the area while emergency crews worked to make the scene safe.

Thank you to all of our responding personnel and our neighboring agencies for your continued dedication, teamwork, and commitment to protecting our communities. 💚💙
