Are you interested in the fate of the existing Russell School Building and site? The Municipal Building Committee, along with the Select Board, is seeking real estate professionals, developers, public-private partnership experts, and other persons who can contribute some limited time towards brain-storming ideas on how the Town should approach the potentially-high renovation costs to preserve the building for Town or possibly private use. This sub-committee will be led by Municipal Building Committee member Claire Carlson, and may take the form of limited focus group sessions and/or meetings as necessary to promptly develop scenarios and action plans for presentation to the MBC and Select Board. Interested persons should send us a short letter expressing your interest in participating. You may mail your letter to Municipal Building Committee, Town of Hadley, 100 Middle Street, Hadley, MA 01035 or submit it by email to [email protected] and to [email protected]

Our committee has lost two members of late. We thank both Andy and W***y for their service, energy, and commitment toward our purpose. If there are any interested residents who wish to join us, please reach out! There remains much work to be done!

Wow! Tonight was a demonstration of true democratic spirit as we overflowed the Hopkins cafeteria to discuss the varying proposals for new Town Buildings. We'd like to thank everyone for taking their time to be part of the discourse surrounding these important decisions. And please consider joining us for our regularly-posted MBC meetings, where we'll soon be faced with more crossroads while providing recommendations for the fate of our buildings. Tonight's renewed call for a truly community-oriented space also deserves further consideration - we hope those who feel strongly in favor of this will continue to participate and offer your ideas.

Please keep in mind that the override articles will require a majority vote at the ballet box. Make sure your opinion is fully-counted by making a point to vote!

As we move into the design phases of our newly-approved town building projects, our committee remains dedicated to ensuring that these projects are executed with the upmost professionalism and qualified oversight, using long-lasting materials and construction processes. Over a century ago our town government had the insight to employ quality construction, and as a result we still enjoy these beautiful buildings today. We look forward to working with the individuals who have formed the various building sub-committees to push these projects ahead, and each one of us remains dedicated to help make them each a success!

This is reminder to encourage citizens of Hadley to vote Tuesday, January 10, 12:00 - 8:00 at Hopkins Academy.

Hadley residents are voting to accept debt exclusion override expenditures for a number of capital items, including a new North Hadley Fire substation spec’d to be built on the North Hadley ball field/park next to North Hadley Hall, and a new Senior Center designed to be built on the field behind the current senior center, a.k.a. Ho**er School.

Let your voice be heard and support your town committees and boards by voting your opinion on these very important commitments for the taxpayers and citizens of Hadley!

Following the recent Town meeting vote against the use of the Ho**er school property for a new library, the library trustees and the library planning and design committee are seeking response to a very short survey. The Municipal Buildings Committee could also benefit from your response so that we may more closely understand the Town's concerns and priorities pertaining to our buildings. Here's the link below. Thanks in advance!

Our historic Town Hall is again open for business! Come see the new floors, paint and other finishes which were replaced as we removed the asbestos floor tile. We appreciated your patience, particularly from those who were temporarily displaced during the work. Also, thanks to all those who worked with relocating offices, personnel and furniture. And a special thanks to our own MBC members Gary and Tim for taking the time to keep a close eye on the work ensuring that things kept moving. We all know that issues often surface while renovating historic structures, and we're thankful to have residents who go out of their way to protect our buildings! Want to know what our next project is? Come to one our meetings and find out!

Good News! MANY projects from the initial Critical Needs List are underway or completed. An more detailed update with their status is to follow.

However, a project which about to start is the abatement and reflooring of Town Hall. It won't be an easy task, especially to those displaced while the work is being performed, but it will be worthwhile in the end. Stay tuned!
