Saddler's Woods Conservation Association (SWCA) SWCA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to education, restoration, and research of our 25 acre-old growth forest surrounded by suburbia.

Located in Haddon, Twp, Camden County New Jersey. Saddler's Woods is a small urban forest located in Haddon Township, New Jersey. Saddler's Woods surrounds the headwater spring of the main branch of the Newton Creek, a tributary of the Delaware River in Camden County, and is unique for its combined features of an old growth forest, young woodlands, a meadow, and wetlands all located within five mi

les of Philadelphia, PA. Every year, thousands of visitors enjoy Saddler's Woods for passive recreation and nature interpretation. In the 1800s, Joshua Saddler escaped a Maryland plantation to seek refuge among the large Quaker abolitionist population. Joshua found work with a local Quaker farmer, Cy Evans, and gained his freedom. He purchased a small farm and raised his family next to the woods. In 1868, Joshua Saddler wrote into his will that none of his heirs "shall cut the timber thereon." For this preservation ethic, the woods were officially named in his honor in January 2004. Previously, the woods had never had any official name or designation.

Thanks to the support of people like you, there's been a more than 40% reduction of invasive vegetation after 5 years of goats munching in Saddler's Woods! That's a lot less English Ivy, poison ivy, garlic mustard, and other plants that harm the trees and native environment. Hey Goat Fans! We need your help! It's SUPER important that we don't pet and feed the goats. Feeding produce can cause a lot of health problems for the goats and in some cases can be deadly if their stomachs get too bloated and distended from the change in diet. So please no lettuce, carrots, celery, apples, oranges... you name it. We know you don't want to harm the goats and that's what it could do. You are welcome to watch, cheer them on, and enjoy their antics but absolutely no feeding. Also refrain from petting due to poison ivy oils on them to prevent rashes. Thank You!

Happy Earth Day! We can't think of a better way to mark it than watching our favorite four-legged volunteers go to town on invasive plants and ivy in our favorite forest. Operation Goat Munch 2026 is officially ON! 🌿🐐

We are so grateful to steward this rare piece of woodland - and even more grateful for everyone that helps us do it! Our volunteers, donors, sponsors, and community members make every season of conservation possible. You prep the trails, fund the fencing, spread the word, and show up. Thank you!💚
