Town of Haddam

Town of Haddam Official town government page of Haddam, CT Haddam is a quaint town nestled in the hills of the Lower Connecticut River valley.

It is one of the hidden treasures of Connecticut. Once graced with a brisk river trade, shipbuilding, granite quarries and pre-industrial revolution water powered mills, Haddam is now poised on the brink of economic growth, development and revitalization. Haddam is a town in a rural picturesque setting that keeps its own pace, yet is only 10 minutes from Middletown and Wesleyan University, 20 minu

tes from the shoreline and 30 minutes from Hartford and New Haven. Haddam has a population of 8,366 spread out over 46.7 square miles, 27% of which is state forest. Haddam has five villages within the town-- Higganum, Tylerville, Shailerville, Hidden Lake and Haddam Neck: each with its own unique personality. Urban renewal and suburban development being unknown here, Haddam retains much of its historic charm. In fact, we have more authentic colonial-era homes than Williamsburg.

Parking at Higganum Cove for Town Residents

Due to excessive use and environmental damage at this town park, parking for this Summer will be reserved for town residents at the Higganum Cove parking lot on Dublin Hill Road. Due to construction parking will no longer be allowed on Depot Road.

If you have a town transfer station sticker on your car, that is evidence that you are a town resident and you’re all set! If you don’t have a transfer station sticker on your car, you can pick up a free sticker for your car at the town clerk’s office in Haddam, which will demonstrate you are a town resident.

Cars parked there without stickers are at risk of being towed.
Please understand that this change was necessary due to excessive environmental damage, littering and other problems at the Cove in recent years.

The Town has received some grants that will allow Haddam to make improvement to the are for additional recreation.
