The Wortendyke Barn is one of Bergen County’s hidden treasures. Located in Park Ridge, this barn stands as a living reminder of the County’s Dutch agricultural past, and exists today as a museum, and currently as the venue for our Music at the Barn series!

Bergen County Commissioner Tom Sullivan walks us briefly through the history and importance of the site, and why it remains as such a relevant cultural landmark for Bergen County.

Happy Independence Day on behalf of the County of Bergen!

Today, we celebrate the birth of our nation, with 2026 being a special year as it marks the 250th anniversary of America’s independence. Bergen County played a pivotal role in the founding of our nation, as key moments of the Revolutionary War unfolded right here in our communities.

The Revolution in New Jersey began along the Palisades, where George Washington and the Continental Army launched their retreat across the Jerseys in 1776. Throughout that campaign, both Continental and British forces moved through present‑day Englewood, Fort Lee, Teaneck, New Milford, River Edge, Bergenfield, Leonia, Wallington, Lodi, Hasbrouck Heights, and Hackensack, forever linking Bergen County to the fight for independence.

Thank you to the brave men and women who defend the freedoms we hold dear. Have a safe and happy 4th of July!
