Wilson High School Weekly Message 4-14-23
Parent Square Message 4/14/23 Hello Wildcat Families! This is your weekly Friday message from Wilson Principal, Dr. Kenfield.I must apologize for forgetting to send a Parent Square on Friday, March 30th. I think I had early onset “Spring Break” brain. Let’s catch up…We had a challenging start to our week. Our plan had been to simultaneously administer the SBAC exams to juniors while the rest of the student body took the S-MAP exams. However, our network did not support the students on two separate testing platforms which has now resulted in an extended testing schedule. Next week, 11th graders will take the SBAC test in their English and math classes. To accommodate our juniors the school will be following the GOLD DAY SCHEDULE on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and the RED DAY SCHEDULE on Tuesday and Thursday. The week of April 24th, we will be administering the S-MAP exams. I will provide more details about that schedule next Friday. Thank you for your patience and understanding. Our students and our teachers have been troopers! Mt SAC Spring Parent Information Day will take place on Saturday morning, April 22nd at 8:30am-11:30am and is presented by the Community and Family Engagement Team in High School Outreach. The event will have parent/guardian information sessions with guest campus speakers and campus tours. Mt SAC will provide free breakfast, lunch and goodies. Sessions will be in English and Spanish. Please visit the home page of the Wilson website for the flyer containing the registration link. Late applications to attend summer school are now available in Canvas. Only classes that are not filled to capacity will be available to those registering late. Once filled, courses will be removed from the list. Late applications may be submitted up to April 28th at 3:00 PM. Students can confirm summer school enrollment by visiting Course Requests in Aeries. New scholarships have been recently added to the guidance webpage. We just added a sizable scholarship for Juniors. Please encourage your junior/senior to check out the scholarship link on the Guidance webpage. I am in the process of composing a letter to Families of Seniors about end of year events and deadlines. For your immediate planning, please know that we will be holding diplomas for students that do not return their school issued laptop, textbooks, novels, and equipment. All fines will also need to be paid in full and in cash to the ASB store in order for seniors to receive their diplomas immediately after the graduation ceremony. Senior Grad Bags will be distributed from the office the week of May 1st. The senior bag will include regalia, cap and gown, and graduation tickets. Seniors must show their school ID to receive their Grad Bag. Lastly, during distance learning, we started a tradition of offering the purchase of banners to celebrate our graduating seniors. The week before graduation, we post the banners in the school parking lot as decoration for the graduation ceremony. If you would like to purchase a banner for your soon to be graduate, please visit the Senior Page of the website for purchase information and banner design. The deadline to order is May 5th. Peer tutoring is being provided CSF on Monday and Thursdays from 3:30 PM – 4:30 PM in Room G-11. Events happening on campus next week include:
- UC Riverside will be presenting at lunch on Tuesday in the Media Center. CSUF will present at lunch on Friday.
- The Safety Committee will meet in the Media Center on Wednesday at 3:30 PM
- Prom will be held Saturday at the Hyatt Long Beach. The event ends at 11:00 PM. Please arrange for your student to be picked up promptly.
That concludes my Friday message. Thank you for your time, Wildcats, and enjoy your weekend.
