📣 OKLAHOMA: MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD 📣

FROM SENATOR MARY BOREN:

Oklahoma has seven members in the U.S. Congress— Senators James Lankford and Markwayne Mullin, and Representatives Kevin Hern, Josh Brecheen, Frank Lucas, Tom Cole, and Stephanie Bice— yet many Oklahomans report unreturned calls, ignored emails, and a lack of town halls or direct responses from our federal delegation in Washington, DC.

In response, State Senator Mary Boren will personally collect and hand-deliver copies of constituent letters to all seven members of Oklahoma’s federal delegation.

✍️ Write a letter

To: Oklahoma Federal Delegation.

Share your concerns about reported ICE abuses of authority, and what actions you want Congress to take to ensure accountability, oversight, and protection of our constitutional rights.

📬 Mail your letter by February 6, 2026 to: Oklahoma Federal Delegation

C/O Senator Mary Boren

2300 N Lincoln Blvd., Suite 514

Oklahoma City, OK 73105

Email letters to: [email protected]

📣 Letters may be shared with the media and copies will be delivered directly to Oklahoma’s federal delegation by Senator Boren.

Oklahomans deserve to be heard.

**Deadline: February 6, 2026.**

💙Candidate Watch Wednesday💙

Today’s spotlight shines on Cyndi Munson! Logan County Democrats are proud to stand with Cyndi Munson, who is running for Governor of Oklahoma in 2026.

Here’s why she deserves your support:

👩‍💼 Public Service & Experience
Cyndi has served in the Oklahoma House of Representatives since 2015, representing District 85. In 2022, she was elected Minority Leader of the Oklahoma House.

Before public office, she worked in the nonprofit sector — including leadership roles with the Girl Scouts of Western Oklahoma and the OK Messages Project.

She’s a first-generation college student, earning her BA from University of Central Oklahoma and MS in Leadership Education from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.

Cyndi was the first Asian-American woman elected to the Oklahoma Legislature. She also received the Guardian Award from the Oklahoma Commission on the Status of Women for her work protecting rights of women & families.

📊 Voting Record & Legislative Leadership
•While in office, Cyndi has focused on issues like public education, working families, women’s rights, and election reform.

•She has a track record of working across the aisle to get things done.

🗳️ Platform & Priorities for Governor
Cyndi’s campaign for Governor is built on a vision that centers around investing in people, not just the powerful:

•Education: She wants to raise public school funding to the regional average and increase pay for teachers & support staff.

•Tax Relief: Advocates for tax relief targeted at working- and middle-class Oklahomans — not just the wealthy.

•Healthcare: She supports lowering healthcare costs and ensuring access to essential care.

•Reproductive Rights: She’s calling for a public vote to repeal Oklahoma’s strict abortion ban, so that healthcare decisions rest with families, not state government.

•Listening to All Oklahomans: Cyndi emphasizes that she’s not a “typical” politician — she talks to people regardless of party (rural or urban) and wants to be a governor for everyone.

✅ Why She Matters
•She brings real legislative experience and proven leadership.
•She’s deeply rooted in Oklahoma — and understands the financial pressures many families face.

•Her values are about unity, opportunity, and fairness — not extremes.

If elected, she would make history as the first woman of color to hold Oklahoma’s highest office.

📣 Meet Jena Nelson

Jena Nelson is running to represent Oklahoma’s 5th Congressional District because she believes our government can — and must — do better for ordinary people. After more than 16 years in the classroom (including being named Oklahoma Teacher of the Year in 2020) she moved into nonprofit leadership and small-business ownership — always putting service first. She’s a proud wife, mom, and native Oklahoman who knows firsthand the challenges working families face.

🌟 What Jena Stands For

•Fighting to keep our economy working for families — she’s focused on inflation, cost-of-living pressures, and creating opportunities for people whose voices too often go unheard.

•Protecting and strengthening critical programs like Social Security, Medicare & Medicaid that our veterans, seniors and vulnerable neighbors rely on.

•Improving education — ensuring we keep our best teachers, support our kids, and fight for real resources rather than distractions.

•Standing up for accountability and being present — Jena has held multiple in-person town halls to listen to constituents directly, not just talk at them.

📜 Article II of the U.S. Constitution lays out the powers and duties of the Executive Branch — aka the President and Vice President!

👔 Rights & Powers:
•Enforces federal laws
•Serves as Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces
•Can make treaties (with Senate approval)
•Appoints federal judges, ambassadors, and other officials
•Has the power to pardon offenses against the U.S.

🚫 Restrictions:
•The President must be a natural-born citizen, at least 35 years old, and a 14-year resident.
•Congress can impeach and remove a President for “high crimes and misdemeanors.”
•The Senate must approve major appointments and treaties.

💡 Fun Fact:
George Washington set the tradition of serving only two terms as President—later made official by the 22nd Amendment!

💙Civics Sunday💙

🇺🇸 Article I: The Legislative Branch

Article I creates Congress, the branch that makes our laws. It’s made up of two parts — the House of Representatives and the Senate. It explains how members are chosen, their powers (like collecting taxes, declaring war, and regulating trade), and sets limits on what Congress and the states can do. In short, Article I is intended to ensure the people’s voice shapes the nation’s laws. 🏛️✨

🏛️ Congress = Two Chambers, Two Jobs 🇺🇸

👥 House of Representatives — The People’s Voice
•Represents local districts (based on population)
•Starts tax and spending bills 💵
•Can impeach federal officials ⚖️

🏔️ Senate — The State’s Balance
•Represents entire states (2 per state)
•Confirms judges, ambassadors, and Cabinet members ✅
•Holds impeachment trials 🧾
•Approves treaties with other nations 🌍

Together, they are intended to keep power balanced and laws fair! ⚖️

🇺🇸 Fun Fact About Congress! 🏛️
The U.S. Congress is older than the U.S. Capitol Building itself! 🏗️

When Congress first met in 1789, they gathered in New York City, not Washington, D.C. The Capitol didn’t open until 1800 — over a decade later!

🗓️ Next Week: a deeper dive into Article II

Trump and millionaire Stephanie Bice can tear down the White House and build an extravagant new ballroom for their rich friends during their shutdown, but they can’t find money to feed hungry kids. Got it.

Weekend of Action: Persistence, Solidarity, and Pride!

The Pittsburg County Democrats and Weave the People had a powerful and productive Saturday, with two key community engagement events!

⛈️ The "No Kings" Rally: Persistence in the Storm
Despite gathering in the middle of a thunderstorm, approximately 60 dedicated individuals showed up in solidarity with the national "No Kings" movement. It was wet and windy, but our commitment persisted! We had several Friendly friends show up in their fun costumes, from Inflatable Frogs, 9 foot chickens, a banana & a alien among several other outstanding outfits!

We ensured the event was entirely peaceful and non-violent, we proudly exercise our fundamental First Amendment rights as engaged and informed citizens. Thank you to everyone who braved the elements to stand together.

🏳️‍🌈 McAlester Pride: Celebrating Individuality
Our team also hosted a successful booth at the McAlester Pride event! We were thrilled to register new voters and share information and free swag with attendees.
We stand firmly and proudly in solidarity with ALL members of our LGBTQIA+ family, celebrating individuality, equality, and the strength of our diverse community!

Looking forward to the upcoming week, we have a booth at Octoberfest Friday and Saturday at the Expo center in McAlester, registering voters & we need volunteers to help man the booth, if you're interested please reach out and we will get you information on how you can volunteer!
