City of Gunnison Welcome to the City of Gunnison's official page! The City of Gunnison is truly the Base Camp of the Rocky Mountains.

As evidenced by the Tenderfoot Archaeological Site overlooking the city, ancient hunters used the area 12,000 years ago as their base camp to hunt the valley's abundant game. The City was established in 1874, again as a Base Camp. This time it was as the supply center for the surrounding gold and silver mining camps. Ranching followed the mines and the City was incorporated in 1880. Today, Gunniso

n is used as a base camp by the locals and visitors alike to enjoy the abundant indoor and outdoor recreational opportunities. There is no better place to live, visit, or conduct business than the beautiful Gunnison Valley!

The north side sidewalk and parking stalls are closed for the project duration.
Please visit us through the east side door.
The parking lot is open and accessible from the south alley or through adjacent business parking lots off Highway 50.

On May 26th, City Council heard an informational report on the recently completed Irrigation Ditch Master Plan which provides a planning and decision support document for the ditch system as a whole. This data driven study can now be used as a resource to Council for any future actions they may consider.

The next Regular Session meeting of City Council will be on Tuesday, June 23rd, 2026 beginning at 5:30pm at City Hall.

This morning, the Gunnison Police Department responded to a two‑vehicle accident on Tomichi Avenue. Thankfully, only minor injuries were reported. All individuals involved received on‑scene medical evaluation and were released.

We extend our sincere appreciation to all First Responders whose professionalism and commitment help keep our community safe every day.
