The City of Gulfport is working to better understand areas that may be prone to flooding during heavy rain events and we need your help.
Tropical Storm Arthur brought an extraordinary amount of rainfall to our area—approximately 16 inches in less than 36 hours. This type of storm is considered a 100+ year rain event.
While events of this magnitude can exceed the design capacity of even well-planned stormwater systems, the continuous rainfall over several days has also saturated the ground, limiting absorption and increasing runoff.
“While we understand how frustrating flooding is for our residents, especially when it impacts homes, businesses, and daily travel, these types of significant rain events can overwhelm even well-designed systems,” said Mayor Hugh D. Keating. “At the same time, they provide us with important real-world data that helps us identify areas for improvement and better plan for future infrastructure investments.”
If you experienced street flooding, or flooding that impacted your home or business, during recent storms, please report it by calling 3-1-1.
When calling, be prepared to share:
• The address or nearest intersection
• The date the flooding occurred
• The approximate time (morning, afternoon, evening, or night)
• Whether the flooding affected a structure (home or business)
Your input helps the City identify flooding hotspots, track patterns, and prioritize future drainage improvements.
Thank you for helping us keep Gulfport safe and resilient.
