Today, we honor and celebrate the retirement of Officer Charles Pettway after years of dedicated service to the Gulfport Police Department and the community he faithfully served.
Officer Pettway began his journey with the Gulfport Police Department as a Reserve Officer in 2001. Through hard work, dedication, and a true passion for service, he became a full-time officer on November 20, 2006.
In July of 2007, Officer Pettway found his calling as a School Resource Officer. Over the years, he became far more than just an officer in the schools. He became a mentor, role model, protector, and trusted friend to countless students, teachers, and staff. The impact he made on the lives of young people throughout our community cannot be measured.
Beyond his work in the schools, Officer Pettway also served on the Police Explorer Advisory Board, helping guide and mentor future generations interested in law enforcement and public service.
Anyone who knows Officer Pettway knows his smile, his kind heart, and the genuine care he showed to everyone around him. His selfless service, positive attitude, and unwavering commitment to this community have left a lasting mark on the Gulfport Police Department and the City of Gulfport.
While his presence will be deeply missed, his legacy will continue through the many lives he touched throughout his career.
