While conducting routine patrols to ensure public safety on the water, the crew of Coast Guard Station Gulfport observed a significant amount of debris accumulating on Ship Island.
The Coast Guard works with multiple government agencies across many mission areas, including lifesaving, law enforcement, and boating safety education. In keeping with that partnership, Station Gulfport coordinated with the National Park Service to conduct a joint cleanup effort that removed more than 500 pounds of trash from Ship Island.
Efforts like this help preserve our National Seashore, protect marine life, and ensure these waters remain safe and enjoyable for the public.

🚁 Teamwork in Action! 🚁

This week, Coast Guard Station Gulfport teamed up with our friends from the Navy’s Dusty Dogs. Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 7, for an exciting Combat Search and Rescue (CSAR) training exercise.

Training side-by-side with our Navy partners builds trust, strengthens teamwork, and keeps us sharp for the real thing. Joint missions like these ensure that when the call comes, we’re ready to answer it, together.

This week, Station Gulfport successfully completed our Ready for Operations (RFO) inspection. The RFO is a comprehensive evaluation of a unit’s training, proficiency, and operational readiness.

The crew demonstrated exceptional professionalism, discipline, and commitment to the mission throughout the process. Their performance reflects the highest standards of the United States Coast Guard.

Greetings from Sta Gulfport, which is usually sunny and warm! This week, however, we experienced a record-breaking 8 inches of snow—a rare and surreal sight to see our beaches blanketed in white. Rest assured, the crew at Station Gulfport remains ready to assist anyone in need on the water. However, we strongly urge everyone to stay home. With freezing air temperatures and cold water, hypothermia can set in within minutes. Stay safe out there!

Today, the CO and XPO had the honor of visiting Mr. Ron Gruno, a retired Coast Guard member, at the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Gulfport. Mr. Gruno's remarkable career began in 1955 when he joined the Navy Reserves, later making the transition to the Coast Guard in 1962. He served with distinction, retiring as a Radioman 1st Class in 1980.

Among his many achievements, Mr. Gruno is a proud plank owner of the USCGC Morgenthau, a 378-foot Hamilton-class high-endurance cutter. The Morgenthau, which served the Coast Guard faithfully for decades, was decommissioned in 2017 and transferred to the Vietnam Coast Guard, continuing its legacy of service.

Mr. Ron Gruno is one of just five retired Coast Guard members residing at the retirement home, a testament to the proud history and enduring spirit of our service. It was a privilege to spend time with him and honor his contributions to our nation.

Greetings from Station Gulfport! The crew has been hard at work, taking the boats underway for training several times a week. This week, we had three small boats out for check rides, and the team delivered impressive results. MK3 Elizabeth Luther successfully completed her crewman check rides on the 45, 29, and 27, while BM3 Mason Moser wrapped up his coxswain check rides on the 29 and 27. Both performed exceptionally, exceeding expectations. Outstanding work by everyone involved—great job!
