And also a big THANKS to Auxiliarist Carsten Wellman who was recognized for his contributions and service to the US Coast Guard Auxiliary with the 1500-Hour Sustained Service Award. Just some video clips from our last couple of airdrop training missions. The US Coast Guard aircrews fly out of the USCG Air Station in Mobile, AL. They fly over to Mississippi to train in airdropping rescue equipment to boats in distress. Flotilla 3-7 provides the "boat in distress" and we recover all the equipment they airdrop. Today we had some excitement when the aircraft dropped a de-watering pump inside a large box. Let's just say they dropped it pretty close. The box landed just a few feet in front of the boat and we didn't have to go very far to recover the parachute. We are always looking for new members to keep our Flotilla moving forward. Last weekend was the Op-Train (Operational Training) event for the US Coast Guard Auxiliary Heartland Coastal District. The event was held in Mobile, AL and there were Flotilla's from as far East as Panama City, FL and as far west as Albuquerque, NM. They need operational Auxiliary "Facilities" which is our fancy term for approved boats for Auxiliary operations. Flotilla 3-7 from the Mississippi Gulf Coast provide a couple of boats and a couple of trained crews. We were able to provide needed "on the water" training opportnities to Auxiliarists from across our district that do not get as much of a chance to get out on the water. Great training and great camaraderie with our fellow Auxiliarists!

One of the primary missions of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary is to continually emphasize boater responsibility and boating safety in our communities. Flotilla 3-07 does this in several ways to include boater safety courses we teach throughout the year and vessel safety checks which we conduct at various boat ramps across the Mississippi Gulf Coast. We frequently partner in these efforts with the active-duty US Coast Guard, The Marine Patrol, local sheriff's offices, the Department of Marine Resources, and even the Department of Fisheries, Wildlife and Parks. Plus, we have local community organizations that ask us to help them out. On Saturday 15 August, Flotilla 3-07 orchestrated a "Maritime Observation Mission" at the request of the Coastal Wake & Buoy Foundation on the Jourdan River in Hancock County. The Flotilla provided two boats crewed by members of Flotilla 3-07 and we were joined by a US Coast Guard patrol boat and crew from the Gulfport Coast Guard Station. Additionally, the Hancock County Sherrif’s Office and the Department of Marine Resources each provided one of their members to join us on this patrol. The mission was to cruise up and down the Jourdan River, a popular boating area, and let the local boaters know that the US Coast Guard and the Auxiliary are out in the community, and we want everyone to be safe and responsible while out on the water. At the same time some of our Flotilla members provided no-cost/hassle-free vessel safety checks to boats at the McLeod Park boat ramp further educating recreational boaters about safety requirements for boats. BOAT SAFELY and BE RESPONSIBLE!

GREAT JOB!!! to Flotilla 3-7's own Derrick Charbonnet for his efforts to spread the word on boating safety to the kids attending the Mississippi Maritime & Seafood Industry Museum's Sea-n-Sail Adventure Camp this Summer. From boating rules, to boating safety equipment to pollution control Derrick is great at working with the kids.

Today we celebrate 87 years of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary 🎉🛟

Since our original conception as the Coast Guard Reserve in 1939, we have stood the watch. Whether it be supporting our active duty colleagues, providing boater safety education, or keeping our waterways safe, the Auxiliary has been there and will continue to proudly do so for many years to come.

The US Coast Guard Auxiliary is all about supporting the active duty US Coast Guard and for the most part we are focused on boater safety. We teach Boater Safety Courses, we conduct Vessel Safety Checks, we visit local boating organizations such as marinas/harbors and boating supply stores to ensure they have safety pamphlets to pass along to boaters, we do checks of the local Aids To Navigation (ATONs) to ensure they are in place and the lights work properly, and we in Flotilla 3-7 have play an active role in US Coast aviation training by routinely taking a boat and crew out into the Mississippi Sound to recover equipment that US Coast Guard aircraft drop out of their planes during search & rescue training missions. But we are also all about strengthening the bonds of friendship among our members with various social activities. And the latest activity was this past weekend when a group of our members along with their significant others travelled to New Orleans to attend the Sail 250 event. Lots of tall ships from all over the world along with US Coast Guard and US Navy ships. Our folks got a personalized tour of the US Coast Guard Cutter "Eagle" and toured some of the other ships. The USCG Air Training Command air drop mission was cancelled today due to weather. But we had the airdrops on Tuesday. If you want to join us out on the water to support these missions let me know.
