Whisper of Hope

Whisper of Hope Whisper of Hope is a wildlife rescue focused primarily on bats, but we do take other small wild mammals depending on location.

We also focus on education and have bird and snake education ambassadors to perform outreach with the public.

We are looking to you, our supporters and followers, for some help with some items on our Amazon list. We are adding new rehabbers to help with central MS bats, but our current stock of supplies only goes so far. We have updated our Amazon list (it should automatically ship to our Petal address, but you can use our Lucedale P.O. Box too) and each item has a priority level assigned to it. If you can help, we would appreciate it so much. Donations have been slow, but the bats keep coming. Thanks for any help.

Part of our tree bat nursery that is full of Eastern Red and Seminole bats. We will be separating these out into “bigs” and “littles” this evening to help better monitor behavior and weights.

This is Zoe Ann- we picked her up Friday afternoon from Vancleave. Her finders found her grounded and alone with no mom in sight. So she will join our motley crew of misfits 😊❣️🦇

She wanted to show us her toofs which looks a whole lot like a smile.

Good afternoon. We have a PSA for you kind folks:

If you find a bat that needs help, please pull out one of those “good boxes” you thrifty folks keep around from Amazon or Walmart purchases. Please.

Shoe boxes especially those with hinged lids and the holes on the sides, are the perfect Houdini box for the bat you are trying to secure to disappear somewhere in your house, your car, or wherever else you don’t want it to be. A small Amazon or Walmart box with small holes and taped shut is perfect. A shoebox is asking for “Batoudini” to show you their favorite disappearing trick.

Thanks for your attention to this matter.

Meet Rosie- she's from Ocean Springs . She's small and hoping she makes it. Her finders saw her and thought she'd move on her, but she didn't so they called me this morning and we picked her up. Very sweet little soul, she has some mites which we have treated and she’s very thin and dehydrated. We are starting her on a refeeding protocol to help hydrate and gently provide her with nutrition slowly.

We need help transporting bats from where they are found to our rehabbers. You don’t have to be rabies vaccinated as we ask finders to secure bats before we pick them up. We have transportation from Picayune helping us with Picayune/Poplarville area, but we need help on the western part of the coast around Bay St. Louis and Waveland and help with transportation around Columbia. If you are in either of those areas and have a decent amount of free time to help transport, please send us a DM. We can talk with you about our routine with transportation.

For everyone else, if you find a bat, we really need your help with transportation and trying everything to meet us halfway. Ask your friends, your family, your neighborhood page and try to find that nature loving person who will help transport to us. We have to prioritize the bats we already have in care who have to be fed at certain intervals and our rehabbers who have the right to sleep, eat, and be a person with a family. Thanks for your understanding.

All of this, y’all, every word of this.

All of this, y’all, every word of this.

Be that weird guy who pulled over and checked on the animal that was hit by a car to see if it was still alive and needed help.

Be the construction worker that left work early while his buddies laughed at him because he found an injured squirrel and wanted to get it to safety.

Be the irritating woman who isn’t afraid to stop traffic because a mama duck is trying to cross the road with her babies.

Be the gross person who isn’t disgusted by a mangy fox and sees it as an animal that needs help from the right people.

Be the aggravating informant who tells the guy buying rat poison what it does to our local wildlife.

Be the uncool kid who stops his friends from trying to hurt a snake they found for fun.

When we start feeling bad or embarrassed for showing EMPATHY toward another and trying to SAVE A LIFE, then we have let the opinions of others mean WAY too much.

Never apologize for being a good and caring human being. There aren’t enough in this world.
