🚒💧 Water Safety Reminder from the Gulf Breeze Fire Department 💧🚒

As temperatures warm up and more families head to the water, the Gulf Breeze Fire Department wants to remind everyone to stay safe while enjoying pools, beaches, and waterways.

Here are a few important water safety tips:

✅ Always supervise children when they are in or around water — even strong swimmers.
🦺 Wear a life jacket when boating, kayaking, or paddleboarding.
📵 Avoid distractions like phones while watching swimmers.
🚫 Never swim alone — always use the buddy system.
⚠️ Stay aware of weather and water conditions, including currents and storms.
🚱 Avoid alcohol while swimming or operating watercraft.

A few simple precautions can prevent accidents and save lives. Let’s work together to keep our community safe while enjoying the water this season.

If you see an emergency, call 911 immediately.

Stay safe and enjoy the water responsibly! 🌊☀️

🚨 Public Safety Message from the Gulf Breeze Volunteer Fire Department 🚨

We know the cold weather has passed, but for future reference, please remember: do NOT pull anyone behind a moving vehicle using a sled or any other device over ice, snow, or any surface.

This activity is extremely dangerous and can lead to serious injury or death. Vehicles can lose control, stop suddenly, or encounter obstacles, and unsafe or unstable surfaces greatly increase the risk.

Please make responsible choices and help us keep our community safe. If you witness unsafe activity, report it to local authorities.

Safety is everyone’s responsibility.

❄️🔥 Cold Weather & Fire Safety Reminder 🔥❄️

As colder weather moves in, the Gulf Breeze Volunteer Fire Department wants to remind everyone to stay safe and be mindful of fire hazards that increase during this time of year.

🧥 Dress for the cold – Wear warm layers, hats, and gloves when outdoors.
🔥 Use heating sources safely – Keep space heaters at least 3 feet away from anything that can burn, and never leave them unattended.
🚫 Never use grills or generators indoors – This includes garages and enclosed porches.
🕯️ Be careful with candles – Keep them away from curtains, furniture, and never leave them burning unattended.
🚗 Watch the roads – Bridges and overpasses can become slick in cold conditions.
🐶 Protect pets – Bring them indoors or ensure they have proper shelter and warmth.
🏠 Prevent frozen pipes – Let faucets drip slightly and open cabinet doors to allow warm air to circulate.
🧓 Check on neighbors – Especially elderly or vulnerable residents.

Taking a few extra precautions can help prevent fires and keep our community safe during cold weather. Please share this message to help spread awareness.

🚒 Stay warm. Stay safe.

🎆 Ring in the New Year Safely! 🎆

As we welcome the New Year, please take time to celebrate responsibly and safely, especially when it comes to fireworks and fire safety.

🔥 Fireworks Safety Reminders:

Fireworks are a leading cause of fires and injuries around holidays. Consider attending a professional fireworks display instead of using consumer fireworks.

Only use fireworks where they are legal and follow all local ordinances.

Never light fireworks indoors, in garages, or near homes, vehicles, dry grass, or wooded areas.

Keep a bucket of water, hose, or fire extinguisher nearby when fireworks are in use.

Never allow children to handle fireworks—even sparklers burn at extremely high temperatures.

Do not relight “dud” fireworks. Wait at least 15 minutes, then soak them in water before disposal.

Avoid fireworks if conditions are windy or dry, as sparks can quickly start fires.

🔥 Additional Fire Safety Tips:

Never leave cooking unattended.

Keep grills and fire pits at least 10 feet from structures and never leave them unattended.

Make sure smoke alarms are working and have an escape plan in place.

🚗 If you’re celebrating with alcohol, please plan for a safe ride home.

From all of us at the Gulf Breeze Volunteer Fire Department, we wish you a happy, healthy, and safe New Year. Thank you for helping keep our community safe! 🧑‍🚒✨

🎄As the holidays get closer and the Christmas decorations come out, it’s a great time to think about fire safety — especially with lights, batteries, and heaters.🛷

Here are a few quick tips to keep your home merry and safe:

🔋 Battery Safety (Toys, Gadgets & RC Vehicles)

Many holiday gifts like battery-powered toys, remote-controlled cars/trucks/drones, and game controllers use rechargeable batteries — treat them with care.

Only use the charger that came with the device or one from a trusted brand.

Never charge toys, remotes, or RC vehicles under pillows, on beds, or on couches.

If a battery/device feels hot, swells, smells odd, or starts smoking, unplug it immediately and move it away from anything that can burn.

Don’t leave devices charging overnight or when you’re not home.

💡 Holiday Light Safety

Check all light strings for frayed wires, cracked sockets, or loose connections before hanging them. If they’re damaged, throw them away.

Use lights that are labeled for indoor or outdoor use appropriately.

Don’t overload outlets or power strips. If it looks like “too much,” it probably is.

Turn off all holiday lights and decorations before going to bed or leaving the house.

🔥 Portable Heater Safety

Keep heaters at least 3 feet away from anything that can burn — furniture, curtains, bedding, and decorations.

Plug heaters directly into a wall outlet — never into power strips or extension cords.

Always turn off portable heaters when leaving the room or going to sleep.

Make sure the heater has an automatic shutoff if it gets tipped over.

Keep heaters out of high-traffic areas where they can be knocked over.

🧯 Bonus Safety Checks

Make sure your smoke alarms are working — test them and replace batteries if needed.

Keep real trees well-watered so they don’t dry out.

🎅From your friends at the Gulf Breeze Volunteer Fire Department, we wish you a safe and happy holiday season!✨

🦃🔥 Thanksgiving Safety Reminder from the Gulf Breeze Volunteer Fire Department 🔥🦃

As we gather with family and friends to celebrate Thanksgiving, we want to ensure everyone in our community enjoys a safe and happy holiday.

Here are a few important safety tips to keep in mind:

🔥 Stay in the kitchen when you are cooking on the stovetop so you can keep an eye on the food.
🧯 Keep flammable items—like oven mitts, wooden utensils, food packaging, and towels—away from the stovetop.
🍗 If you’re frying a turkey, do it outdoors, away from structures, on a flat surface, and make sure the turkey is completely thawed before frying.
🚫 Never leave cooking food unattended, especially when using high heat.
👶 Keep kids and pets at least three feet away from hot surfaces and cooking equipment.
🕯️ If you use candles for decoration, never leave them burning unattended—consider battery-powered alternatives.
🚨 Make sure smoke alarms are working before the cooking begins.

From our GVFD family to yours, we wish you a Safe and Happy Thanksgiving! 🦃❤️

If you need us, we’re always here for you.

🚒🔥 Fire Extinguisher Training at GBHS! 🔥🚒

Last week, the Gulf Breeze Volunteer Fire Department had the privilege of working with students from the Gulf Breeze High School Health Academy and the On-the-Job Training Program.

Our firefighters provided hands-on fire extinguisher training, teaching students the proper techniques for identifying, aiming, and safely extinguishing small fires. These skills are an important part of everyday safety—both at home and in the workplace.

We’re proud to support our community by preparing the next generation with life-saving knowledge and confidence. Great job to all the students who participated—you did an outstanding job! 👏
