Yesterday was my 69th birthday! The good Lord has blessed me with good health, awesome family and friends and a project that will keep me busy for quite some time.
Once a month I gather with my girlfriends to celebrate birthdays or just whatever we feel like celebrating.
So last month they said..Hey Esther, how about we have our gathering at the Pillars...we really want to see what's going on in there. So that's just what we did! My friend Tina made a seafood boil and everyone brought dishes to pass. My sisters even joined us for this one. We had such a wonderful day just visiting and eating. Even though the place is not all together (and the closest restroom was at my house next door) we didn't care. I can hardly wait til we're able to open and welcome folks to our place. Our hope is you'll be able to relax and visit, maybe have a bite to eat, a cup of coffee. As always, we appreciate your encouragement and support.

I'm happy to report that Tommy Thomas Oefelein got a good start on the bathroom renovation/rebuild/restoration. What a mess! But he persevered and got about 1/2 the wall back up along with new floor joists. I haven't been able to walk across that floor in a very long time! He's gone south for the summer but will return and hopefully we'll have that part back together before winter. Meanwhile, I'm back on window duty!

One of the perks of the job. Somebody's gotta drain the old kegs! You can also see Tommy's battle scars.
My dad (Otto Neidlinger) emptied all the bottles and cans when I first bought the Pillars in 2010. He never questioned the wisdom of buying the place. Just jumped in to help. I really wish he was here to see our progress. I think he'd be happy that I'm finally getting to work on it.

Tommy's at it again. After much discussion and calculating we've decided to keep the addition. It has the restrooms and there's really no other place to put them if we were to tear it off. I am not much help at this stage so he has single handedly been tearing out and replacing the rotten lumber. Kudos to Thomas Oefelein for all his hard work! Also a big thanks for believing in this project. Gonna make it! Gonna make it! Gonna make it!!!

I was saddened to learn that Mr. Tom Gray, former Town Historian has passed. Although I didn't know him well he gave me alot of information about the Pillars. He and his wife Wilma provided results of their diligent research on the town and environs. I hope their papers ended up at the Historical Society. Thank you Tom and Wilma.

I just want to send kudos to Norwich Glass for all their support during my restoration of the Pillars windows. They have always been able to fill my many requests for window panes very quickly and accurately. I started out just thinking I'd do one side but once I got going I just couldn't stop. 150 panes later and I'm really close to completion of the upstairs! Thomas Oefelein has the foundation closed up for the winter also! We sure appreciate all the support and encouragement from the community as well!
