Effective at 0900 on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, SPCFPD (Park County District 9) is entering a Stage 2 burn ban.
This ban will remain in effect until weather conditions change; we will provide a notice. We expect it to last at least the next 48 hours.

These 2 spent a brutal day eating smoke (it was better than going hungry) at the 246 Fire in Lake George. Park County agencies were there for initial attack; USFS crew eventually assumed command of the incident. Great job to everyone who worked their tails off today to protect the wildland and many homes that could have been devastated without a rapid response after a prudent call from a motorist in the area. Nina and Aaron, your dedication is not unnoticed!

SPCFPD wildland team held our annual refresher course field day Saturday. We have been focused on training new volunteers for the last few weeks, and they have made amazing strides. Please continue local rain dances anyhow!

Monday, April 13:
The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for our area and much of central/Southern Colorado.
This RFW begins at 11am and continues until 8pm.
We are already in Stage 2 fire restrictions. Please do not do anything that could cause a wildland fire, as the low relative humidity, significant winds, and extremely dry fuels could create conditions for extreme fire behavior.
As always, any open burn is a risk. It is always the responsibility of individuals to use good judgment and take precautions to prevent wildland fire. This applies whether or not there are burn restrictions.

Weather conducive to extreme fire behavior. If you start a wildland fire, it will be difficult to contain due to current conditions.

Stage 2 ban effective Thursday 6:25 pm until ???
Let's hope we have a strong monsoon season.

Effective immediately as of March 19, 2026, at 6:31 PM, Park County is now in a stage two fire ban. This is no surprise to anyone, I'm sure, as we all know we didn't get the snow this winter, but you might as well buckle up; this spring and summer will be rough unless we get a ton of moisture.
