We had a few members involved in this very important training.
Unfortunately we did not remember to take a group photo a) in the daylight or b) while everyone was still on site. We're good at a lot of things, and social media content isn't always one of them 😆
We had a wonderful mix of folks who attended. Brand new firefighters, seasoned firefighters, some just needing recertified. It's always extra cool to see a mix of all different departments, with very different skill sets, coming together with one goal. Watching them go from awkward and untrained, to being able to pass the 20 minute test car at the end.
Within 20 minutes, they must do the inner/outer circle search, crib (stabilize) the vehicle, pop two doors (take them off), either remove the roof or "flop the top" (making space to take a patient out the top), and roll the dash (pushing the dash up off a potential patient). That's a massive amount of work, which must be done as a team effort. One person in charge, leading the team to make it happen. Not only did we do this once, we are gluttons for punishment and did it a total of three times. Maybe with the help from some of the seasoned recerts, but still it's always a beautiful thing to watch.
We make mistakes, we talk about them and learn from each scenario. There's always something to improve on, no matter how small. Or a second, third, or fourth way to accomplish the same result depending on the circumstances.
Multiple agencies attended:
Monteagle FD
Tracy City FD
Sewanee FD
Greutli-Laager FD
