After the last school board meeting, I have been approached with a few topics of concern.
1. Why open the schools and require teachers to report to empty classrooms?
2. Why are we having live in person board meetings during a pandemic when we are allowed to have them virtually?
3. Why are the board meeting not being accurately listed on the website or posted on Facebook?
RESPONSES:
1. Superintendent Ogden said she believe teachers do better when they are in their classrooms (no students) with materials, teaching manuals and manipulatives that are available in the classrooms.
a. What is your thought on opening all the schools so the teacher can go to their empty classrooms to teach online students? Do you think taxpayers should shoulder this expense even though teachers are saying they can teach from their homes? Do you think we should believe our experienced professional that say they can teach from home? How about making it optional and only open the number of schools needed to accommodate those teachers who would prefer to teach from their classrooms?
2. As for board meetings, I have asked that same question. The response I receive is because board president Libby Gray believe live meetings are more effective. I personally do not attend live meetings because board members were exposed to an individual who tested positive for Covid-19 during the first live meeting. I was required to self-quarantine and get tested; I do not wish to go through that again. IMO board meetings are more effect virtually; all you have to do is listen to a blended meeting and an all virtually meeting to know this is true.
3. I thought they were being listed on the website and on our page. I checked and the last meeting did not appear to be on our website prior to the meeting. I will ask about this at the next board meetings.
