WOW. Don’t miss “Oklahoma” at the Thomasville Civic Center this weekend! What a blessing and a treat to enjoy an excellent high-quality production right here in little ol’ Clarke County. (Kudos to the B team cast members who stepped up and gave an A+ performance! Maggie Scarbrough was the sweetest Laurey ever!❤️)

There are members of our Pandemic Book Club in Dallas County and in Clarke County. Both the county libraries have open-source integrated library system (ILS). This meant it was easy to see if there was a hard copy of the August book in either library. Also, they both use the Overdrive – Camellia Net system for electronic books. Thus, if the August book was available from either library as an ebook, it would be from both.

One guy told me that he went to the library this morning and checked out this book without even getting wet. He too was pleased to have an online catalog with ebooks in his library.

Be aware that with the pandemic, we have created what we call The Pandemic Book Club. In this we suggest books. The one for March is THE RIVER by Peter Heller. If you want to be added to the email list, say it.

Here is the text of the middle page of the three page November Literary Newsletter:
A note from Jim Herod: As you know, I have been the editor of the Clarke County Literary Newsletter since 2015. The job was mostly one of putting together the submissions of the three libraries in Clarke County and posting these as a PDF document.
My computer crashed. The software I had been using to combine the submissions did not transfer to the new computer. Consequently, I would have to be creative with a different piece of software.
When I mentioned this problem with the three libraries, two said they had decided to stop posting a newsletter. In part, they said, their decision was due to the pandemic. The Grove Hill Library was one of these two.
I have witnessed changes in use of the library since retiring to Grove Hill in 1998.
Checkout of physical books from the library was one of the big changes. At this time, there are many more electronic books checked out and also more electronic book readers. In this month, there are more than fifty patrons checking out ebooks and about half that many checking out physical books from the Grove Hill Library. This changes what should be posted in a newsletter. This is especially true now that patrons can see the status of every physical book in the library and has access to nearly 300 new ebooks and 35 new audio books during October.
Readers who don’t read ebooks will continue to go to the library and prowl. Electronic book readers know how to find new reading material in the middle of the night or on weekends with the library closed. More new things are coming in 2021! Watch.

Several young people talked to me about their thinking about what they want to study at college. I made page 9 to let them see digital books of a general nature about a variety of subjects.
