Candidate filings for 2024 have started to be posted! I’ll update this post as info becomes available.
This is sourced from Boards of Elections filings and journalist Jeremy Pelzer’s reporting.
Here are a few key takeaways:
(1) Because the new state legislative maps favor incumbent protection, there will be very few competitive or potentially competitive districts in central Ohio in the general election. The 2022 map had 4 Ohio House seats that were within 10 points, but the 2024 map is down to 3 Ohio House seats within that margin. (Statewide, the number of Ohio House seats within 10 points has decreased from 27 to 19 seats.)
(2) Because there are so few seats that could be competitive in the general election, we may be seeing an increase in the number of contested primary elections and the number of independent candidates in the general election.
(3) **TO BE UPDATED** Key gaps seem to remain where we still need progressive candidates in HD61, HD68, HD73, HD86, HD87, SD22, and SD26.
