Unseen Battles by Tommy Bolin

Unseen Battles by Tommy Bolin Firefighter, Paramedic, 30 year veteran. My name is Tommy Bolin, I am a 27 year veteran of the fire service in central Ohio.

Depression, anxiety and PTSD took away my joy in life, it robbed me of those precocious moments with my family and my kids. It almost cost me my marriage and my life. I want to be a beacon of hope for those who are struggling.

Sometimes people get upset when you disappear for a bit, when you’re not liking or sharing their posts. But sometimes it’s not about pulling away, it’s just life happening.

I’m not struggling, just dealing with everyday things and trying to stay focused on what matters most. Honestly, if it wasn’t for trying to share a message of hope for others, I’d probably step away from social media completely.

I don’t live my life around it, there’s more to life than what’s on a screen. So if someone’s been quiet, give them a little grace.

Take care of yourselves and stay grounded, my friends.

I was truly honored to speak to over 200 students at Westfall High School today. A huge thank-you to the Westfall FFA Chapter, especially Abby Bickenheuser for the invitation and warm welcome.

It means a lot to see young leaders who understand the importance of talking about mental health, especially at such an early stage in life. The conversations we start now can change the future of how we think, talk, and care for one another.

A special shout-out to my sidekick Finn, who reminded everyone once again that sometimes healing comes with four paws and a wagging tail. 🐾

To every student who showed up and listened, thank you. You are the next generation of first responders, leaders, and community members, and your willingness to listen and learn gives me hope for what’s ahead.
