This evening as part of Groton Fire Dept monthly trainings we performed evolution's on building Search and Rescue techniques. These techniques included Room Searches, victim location, victim extraction and radio communications.

This evening as part of Groton Fire Dept monthly trainings we performed evolution's on building Search and Rescue techniques. These techniques included Room Searches, victim location, victim extraction and radio communications.

It has come to our attention that some Groton Community members may have heard some of our radio communications during our training and mistaken it for an actual fire with victims trapped.

Please rest assured that this evenings radio transmissions were only a training session and not an actual fire.

Tragedy has struck our community this morning. A fatal fire is not only difficult for our First Responders but for our entire community as a whole.

Thank you to all of our mutual aid members, Dryden, McLean, Tompkins County Sheriff’s, State Fire and the Red Cross for all of your support during the tragic call this morning.

The GFD will post an official press release once the fire investigation is complete.
