ELECTRIC BOAT AND NRMD GROTON CONTINUE TO SOAR ON PROPULSION MAINTENANCE FOR COMSUBRON-FOUR. CAPT Hensy congratulates Jared Mehuren, EB employee for 16 years and Brenden Drake, EB employee for 10 years. These amazing NRMD Groton-EB Nuclear welders provided direct support for weeks in the recent success by providing multiple training mockup welds in support of seal weld cutting practice by the NRMD Nuclear trained enlisted sailors working on the SUBASE waterfront in New London as well as the final onboard repairs. These welds are considered some of the most tedious technique sheets developed to ensure operational safety for our submarine propulsion plants.

NSSF WEAPONS DEPARTMENT STANDS ON CEREMONY! Naval Submarine Support Facility NLON Weapons Department sailors during the recent USS South Dakota (SSN 790) change of command at Naval Submarine Base Groton. A naval gun salute is a historic tradition used to show peaceful intent, honor national flags, and greet important leaders. NSSF WATERFRONT SUPPORT NEVER STOPS! ND2 Smith (Diver) and NDSN Martinez (Diver) of the Naval Submarine Support Facility Dive Locker Team-2 perform a final equipment check prior to diving on a home ported submarine in Groton, CT. The U.S. Navy maintains national security and global maritime dominance, while underwater ship husbandry (UWSH) provides waterborne maintenance, inspection, and repair of submerged hull areas and propulsion systems. The divers and REPAIR DEPT work centers work hand in hand to provide SUBRON FOUR and SUBRON 12 in service and life cycle repairs to assigned submarines as scheduled/emergent work to support submarine operations.

TOTAL WATERFRONT SUPPORT. CAPT Hensy congratulates MMN1 (SS) Dunnum, ETN3 (SS) Wawrzynowics, ETN1 (SS) Vaughn, ETN1 (SS) Nothstein and MMN1 (SS) Kraft on their efforts that led to an out of the box install/repair in support of Naval Facilities SUBASE GROTON. During an unexpected casualty that left the Submarine Repair Facility, SUBRONs 4/12 and SRS 32 without power to offices and IT Servers, these team of NEMMI and Navy sailors from NSSF NLON created an emergency fix rapidly restoring Squadron Support and NSSF IT services preventing thousands of lost man hours in maintenance and submarine waterfront operational support. BZ to these sailors and employees for reaching across the aisle and teaming with our SUBASE partners to restore operations!

Naval Submarine Support Facility (NSSF) hosted a Green Belt Course (Get Real Get Better) Continuous Process Improvement Program April 27-May 1, 2026. All teams having performed well and achieving the desired improvement results!

Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification was presented to BM2 Randell D. Noel and BM2 Heriberto C. Garcia on May 5, 2026. Having met the requirement of 40 hours core training in Body of Knowledge (BOK) for Green Belts that includes comprehensive training, test completion, led two Lean Six Sigma full DMAIC projects or led two KAIZEN/RIEs; or led one DMAIC project and one KAIZEN/RIE, Green Belt certification is awarded.

Submarine Repair Never Stops!! Mr. Andrew Pigg (former Nuclear-trained Submarine Machinist Mate) of the Nuclear Regional Maintenance Department-GROTON is working on a tool mockup in preparation for a complex repair on a New London Submarine during Continuous Maintenance Availability (CMAV). Andrew is an Electric Boat employee who utilizes his experience in the US Navy Nuclear Program to train/supervise active-duty sailors and the dedicated work team of EB stationed at NRMD-GROTON. This teaming allows, in some cases, 75% cost savings for the Navy and keeps operational submarines on schedule during pre-deployment maintenance availabilities. (U.S. Navy Photo by Tim Martin)
