Brent Dreaver, Councilmember, Grosse Pointe Park Transparency, accountability to constituents, process. Serving my neighbors. Dad, husband, public servant, former Marine, MBA.

I moved to Grosse Pointe Park almost ten years ago to be close to the family of the woman who I would eventually marry. I fell in love with the small-town, community feel of the Park. I am running for council to give a voice to my neighbors, the constituents, and help Council to exercise proper process and transparency in city business. In addition to my enthusiasm and love for GPP, I have a backg

round that positions me well to serve the city. In my years of experience at the Rock/Quicken Loans Family of Companies, I've deeply analyzed the status quo and implemented new systems in countless areas including parking, food and beverage, environmental services, marketing, and many more. For years, I was part of the "Mousetrap" team there, which crowdsourced ideas and brought them to life. Before college, I was a Sergeant of Marines with the U.S. Marine Corps, serving as a helicopter crewchief on HMX-1 under two administrations. I hope to apply this groundwork to the City Council. On Council, I will give a voice to all constituents, whether we agree about our personally desired outcome of a given issue or not. My driving view is that all issues should be fleshed out, voices heard, and procedures followed, so that our city can be the best it can be for the residents.

After a temporary setback with the Zamboni, the ice rink has been fully resurfaced and is once again ready for skating. I’m happy to report that I personally checked it out today while skating with my family, and the ice is in great shape.

If you’ve been waiting to lace up your skates, now’s the time. Bundle up, bring the kids, and enjoy one of winter’s best community spots again. See you out there.

Special Council Meeting at 5pm Tonight!

At the last council meeting, and several before, we have talked about selling city owned properties on Alter road (in Detroit). During the October meeting, council asked City Manager Sizeland to negotiate a few details and gather some additional info before we would approve a purchase offer that he had brought to the table.

Instead of waiting until the next regularly scheduled meeting, a special meeting has been called for tonight at 5pm . This isn’t out of the ordinary, it’s just us trying to stay on top of the work rather than push it down the road.

Additionally, we will be looking at approving a listing agreement for some city owned Wayburn properties, but the bigger issue at hand is the approval of the sale.

Please let me know if you have any questions. And, as always, any opinions expressed here are mine and not that of Council.

In case you haven’t seen it yet, our city staff have been working diligently on our new website which launched September 26th. We’re really excited about a lot of the new features and today I wanted to call one out in particular.

As you scroll down, you will see a button that says “let us know.” This is huge for us. You can put your issues in, and from there they become traceable, countable, and most importantly, accountable, tickets.

If you see something in town that needs to be addressed, enter it. You will also see us following up on these tickets at every one of our monthly council meetings moving forward.

Please let me know if you have any questions!

I’ll be heading there soon, and I’m hoping to learn more about what types of plants I can put around my house to best support pollinators and our local environment.
Stop by and say hi!
