Grosse Pointe Park Public Safety along with the Public Works Department will continue its routine fire hydrant maintenance and flushing of water mains beginning Tuesday, May 26, 2026. Crews will begin flushing the hydrants South of Jefferson at 9am and then proceed throughout the north end of the city from Jefferson Ave to Mack Ave and Cadieux Rd to Wayburn St.

The purpose of flushing is to remove sediment build up in the mains and to verify the safe operation of hydrants and valves.
Hydrant flushing may result in temporary discoloration of the water, caused by small particles that dislodge during the flushing, as well as a temporary reduction in water pressure.

In the event of discoloration, we advise running the cold tap water in the lowest point of your home for a few minutes until the water is clear. Please refrain from washing clothes until the water runs clear. Please contact the Water Department for any issues 313-822-5100

Over the past two weeks, members of the Grosse Pointe Park Department of Public Safety, alongside personnel from the other Grosse Pointe departments, Harper Woods, and our dedicated dispatchers, participated in intensive, hands-on training at the Detroit Fire Academy.

Utilizing the academy's three-story fire tower, our teams conducted rigorous search and rescue operations and live-fire suppression drills. The comprehensive training also covered critical survival skills, including confined space operations, self-rescue techniques following structural collapses, and flashover chamber survival.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the Detroit Fire Department for their exceptional instruction, partnership, and willingness to share their expert tactics with our neighboring communities.
