CAR MAKERS TO CHINA: STOP THE SPYING
The Alliance for Automotive Innovation, representing manufacturers producing most US-sold vehicles, in a letter to House and Senate leaders said China’s auto industry has benefited from unfair trade practices, Chinese government subsidies, intellectual property theft, and surveillance.

This summer, the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee has advanced the Connected Vehicle Security Act of 2026. The legislation would restrict certain connected vehicles and related technology tied to foreign adversaries, including China.

A separate bill, dubbed the Motor Vehicle Modernization Act, has cleared the House Energy and Commerce Committee. It has a provision that would prohibit foreign adversaries from manufacturing, importing, or introducing motor vehicles into interstate commerce in the United States.

The alliance wants Congress to act before the current two-year legislative session ends in January.
