Hello Islanders

As you can tell, flags are going up. If you ordered before the 9th, your flag should be up before this Saturday. If your ordered after the 8th, your flag will be up before Memorial Day.

We do have one slight problem though. One of our volunteers lost a Dewalt cordless drill while installing flags today.

If you find one one the side of the road please let us know..

Thanks you

Greetings Islanders,

Have you ever sat at home and thought, "Gee, I would really love to help Kiwanis put out the flags but I don't own a truck"?

Well, fear not, we have volunteer opportunities for you. Our routes are all (currently) less than 20 flags each, which can easily fit inside a Chrysler 200. Some routes only have 5 flags.

So don't let your lack of a truck stop you from participating in this phenomenal program!!

Send us a direct message today to help us get the flags out before Armed Services Day this coming Saturday.

Wow!! What an amazing day!!

Thank you to everyone who came out to help us replace our old tattered flags today.

We have a couple of special thank yous too;

Thank you to the Grosse Ile Scouts who came out to help us and will retire our old flags appropriately.

Thank you to VFW Post 7310 who used our Flag Repair Event as their Annual Day of Service.

Thank you to Air Port Inn for turning on your ovens early so we could feed our very over worked volunteers.

Lastly, thank you to our phenomenal flag volunteers who not only help with events like this, but they also work through the year placing and maintaining the flags in your neighborhood on their own time. When you see them out, stop and say thank you. We couldn't do this program without them

We replaced over 300 flags in 2.5 hours. It is true what they say, many hands make light work.

If you are interested in taking a route, please send us a direct message here on facebook and we will get back to you soon. We will start putting flags up next week in time for Armed Services Day. It has been said that taking over a flag route is a great family building experience.

Thank you Grosse Ile!!!

Greetings Islanders,

The Kiwanis Club of Grosse Ile would like to say Thank You to all the residents who subscribed to our Flag Program and to our volunteers who help keep this program alive.

Last year's Flag season didn't work out with the flags withstanding 6 months of Michigan weather. With that in mind, we will be going back and doing what works best.

This year the Flags will fly for 3 distinct displays, which covers seven patriotic holidays: Armed Forces Day, Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Patriot’s Day, and Veteran’s Day (weather permitting).

They will go up before Armed Forces Day on 5/16 and stay up through the Fourth of July. They will go up again before Labor Day (9/4) and fly through Patriots Day (9/11). Then go up for a final display for Veterans Day in November. The cost of a subscription is decreasing from $80 to $65 for the year.

Also, don’t forget that buying the subscription service for a friend or family member makes a great present. You can renew and buy your subscription by going to our website Flag Program (grosseilekiwanis.com) or paying by check making you check out to Kiwanis Club of Grosse Ile and mailing it to PO Box 31, Grosse Ile, MI 48138. Please mark the purpose as “2026 Flag Subscription” on the check.

Once again, we want to thank you for supporting the Grosse Ile Kiwanis through the years and helping our club in its efforts to give back to our community. We look forward to your subscription renewal for the 2026 Flag season so we can continue to help the children.

Sincerely,

PS: We will have “Flag Repair Days” before the 2026 Armed Forces Day and then, one in between the Fourth of July and Labor Day, and another before Veteran's Day.

* We are always looking for more volunteers to assist with putting up and taking down the flags and also at the "Flag Repair Days". More information will come out on specific dates of the events next year.

Did you order your Flag for next year? Do you know someone who would appreciate a Flag for Christmas?

The Kiwanis Club of Grosse Ile would like to say Thank You to all the residents who subscribed to our Flag Program and to our volunteers who help keep this program alive.

Another wonderful Flag season has ended, and boy did we learn a lot. Leaving the flags out for 6 months did a number on them. We replaced more flags this year than ever before and, as we saw from the condition of the flags when we took them down, we needed to replace a lot more. Also, with the flags flying constantly in their state of disrepair, they lost the significance of the holidays they were meant to be displayed for.

As such, we are adjusting course. Next year the Flags will fly for 3 distinct displays, which covers seven patriotic holidays: Armed Forces Day, Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Patriot’s Day, and Veteran’s Day (weather permitting)
