Hunger does not take a vacation in the summer time. Although the Griswold Community School District will not be participating in the Summer Lunch Program for the Summer of 2026, there are many locations in Southwest Iowa that will offer free nutritious meals throughout the summer while school is out of session!

We wrap up School Board Appreciation Month by spotlighting Board President Ryan Smith.

When asked to describe Griswold CSD in one word, Ryan chose an unexpected answer: “oyster.”

His reasoning? As his late father-in-law often said, “The world is your oyster.” To Ryan, that means our students are surrounded by opportunities and have the ability to explore, succeed, and make a positive impact on the world around them.

A Griswold graduate, educator, volunteer firefighter, youth coach, and proud community member, Ryan serves because he believes “we all have a role in ensuring students understand that the world is their oyster.”

Thank you, Ryan, for your leadership, service, and commitment to Griswold students, staff, and families.

Today's spotlight for School Board Appreciation Month - Aaron Houser.

“I chose to serve because I care about making sure our students have what they need to learn, grow, and succeed.”

Aaron believes the Griswold Community School District is a foundation for our students, families, and community. As a school board member, he is committed to ensuring students come first and have opportunities for a strong future.

What excites him most about our students? The well-rounded experience they receive through academics, activities, fine arts, clubs, and athletics—opportunities that help build confidence, leadership, responsibility, and accountability.

Beyond the board table, Houser is also the coach for our high school and middle school girls basketball teams.

“I serve because I believe in Griswold. Go Blue!”

Committed. That’s the one word Christian VanScyoc would use to describe Griswold CSD.

Today’s School Board Appreciation Month spotlight is on Christian, whose desire to serve comes from a deep belief in the future of Griswold students and the strength of our community.

He says the word committed reflects the dedication he sees from students, staff, families, and community members across Griswold Community Schools.

What excites Christian most about the future is seeing students develop the skills, confidence, and character needed to succeed in whatever path they choose—whether that’s college, careers, military service, the trades, or returning to strengthen their local communities.

For Christian, community means home—a place where people support one another, invest in the next generation, and work together to create opportunities for families.

Thank you, Christian, for your service and dedication to Griswold CSD.

Support the Tigers—one gallon at a time. 🐅⛽

Country Stores recently purchased our local Tiger Mart and is bringing a special opportunity to Griswold: the Tiger Pride Pump.

One designated pump at Tiger Mart will now give back to Griswold CSD, with 2 cents from every gallon sold donated directly to our school. For the first 90 days, Country Stores is doubling that amount, meaning 4 cents per gallon will support our students, staff, and programs.

To kick off the campaign, Country Stores owner Steve Kimmes presented Griswold CSD with a generous $2,500 donation.

Pictured with Kimmes and his team are Superintendent Dave Henrichs, Secondary Principal Seth Lembke, and Griswold Board of Education members Rob Petersen, Erika Kirchhoff, Ryan Smith, Scott Hansen, Aaron Houser, and Christian VanScyoc.

“The schools are the pillar of Iowa’s small towns and communities. We feel it is important to support the schools because our children truly are the future,” said Kimmes.

Since launching the Pride Pump program in 2015, Country Stores—now with around 15 Iowa locations—has donated more than $200,000 to local schools. We are honored to be part of that tradition.

Next time you need to fill up, choose the Tiger Pride Pump—and don’t forget to snap a selfie and share it with us! 📸

“I serve because I want to give back.”

Today we’re spotlighting Keyla Wyman, District #4, as part of School Board Appreciation Month.

For Keyla, Griswold means connection and pride—a place where people show up for one another, support our students, and work together to build something bigger than themselves. In her words, this community feels like family.

She’s excited about the future of our students, pointing to the strong support of our community and the dedicated staff who continue to think creatively and build new opportunities for student success.

Beyond the board table, Keyla serves as our girls junior high track coach and volunteers in many ways throughout the year.

Thank you, Keyla, for your service to Griswold CSD.

The Griswold Track & Field team was well represented in Des Moines this past weekend at the State Track & Field Championships. Qualifying for state is an accomplishment in itself, and we are incredibly proud of our student-athletes and all they achieved this season. State results are included in the attached images.

The Tigers were represented by Alexa Steinhoff, Brystol Wyman, Callen Keiser, Camille Dorscher, Carsyn Adams, Cavyn Turner, Colton Frieze, Dain Laverty, Ella Gade, Embree Chambers, Owen Johnson, RJ Dishong, Sadie Gohlinghorst, and Wyatt Silk.

🐅 ICYMI: School Records During the Regular Season

The boys’ 110M Shuttle Hurdle Relay team of Wyatt Silk, Owen Johnson, Callen Keiser, and Dain Laverty (with alternates Cavyn Turner and Colton Frieze) finished the regular season with the third-fastest time in school history.

Individually, Wyatt Silk now ranks fourth in school history in the 110M High Hurdles, while RJ Dishong ranks fifth in school history in discus.

On the girls’ side, Ella Gade broke a 53-year-old school record and now holds the top spot in discus, while Carsyn Adams is now ranked #1 in school history in the 100M Hurdles.

Congratulations to all of our state qualifiers on an incredible season!

As part of School Board Appreciation Month, we’re introducing the individuals who help guide our district.

Today we’re spotlighting Rob Peterson, whose decision to serve came from a desire to give back to the school district he once attended.

Rob describes Griswold in one word: enthusiastic—a reflection of the pride and energy he sees throughout our schools and community. He’s especially proud of the recent recognition of our elementary principal as Principal of the Year, an honor he says was very well deserved.

What excites Rob most about the future is seeing how students grow and develop as they progress through our district—watching their journey from one stage to the next.

Having grown up in Griswold, this community holds special meaning for Rob. He returned because of the strong connections he has here and the familiarity of a place that has always felt like home.

Beyond the board table, Rob is also involved in the district through the TeamMates mentoring program, continuing his commitment to supporting Griswold students.

Thank you, Rob, for your service and dedication to Griswold students and families.
