The Grinnell Big Brothers Big Sisters hosted a "Drive-thru Spring Picnic" for Littles and their families. BBBS mentor coordinator, Ashley Grundler, along with her husband Chris and daughter Claire, served 40 meals to families. Typically the program hosts an end of the school year picnic for Bigs, Littles, and families, but with recommendations from the CDC, that was not possible this year. So Grundler and fellow mentor coordinator Sandy Motta came up with a plan to still celebrate with Littles. Families picked up meals with hot dogs, chips, applesauce, and homemade cookies to enjoy in their homes.

For the month of May, you can help support our program by purchasing a red reusable grocery bag at the Grinnell HyVee. Grinnell Big Brothers Big Sisters will receive a $1 for each bag that is sold.

In keeping with current Center for Disease Control recommendations and in our ongoing concern for safety, ​The Grinnell Big Brothers Big Sisters Community Board has made the decision to postpone Bowl For Kids’ Sake 2020 (originally scheduled for April 25th).​ A new date has not yet been determined given the changing landscape of this health crisis.

Now more than ever mentoring is important to those children in the Grinnell community who already face societal barriers, opportunity gaps and adversities. Although face to face mentoring is not possible due to current school closures, our mentor coordinators are working to support our Littles and their families during these trying times. Wherever possible Bigs are remaining connected to their Littles through email and snail mail. Bigs continue to inspire confidence and resilience in their Littles through these positive relationships.

We are deeply grateful for your support of Bowl For Kids Sake and the mission of the Grinnell Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring program. ​We will keep you informed as we are able to determine a new date for Bowl For Kids’ Sake 2020.
